This study aimed to compare the importance and satisfaction levels of key evaluation attributes of the Tongyeong stopover event of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, an international yacht race, and to identify operational issues and priority areas for improvement through Importance–Performance Analysis (IPA), thereby proposing development strategies for future international yacht events. To achieve this purpose, a survey was conducted with 51 experts in relevant fields using 29 evaluation items across seven dimensions. The collected data were analyzed using paired-samples t-tests and IPA with SPSS 29.0. The results showed that, with the exception of the yacht tour, the perceived importance of most items was higher than their satisfaction levels. Particularly large gaps were found in event-site accessibility, parking and public transportation convenience, and linkages with local commercial districts, accommodations, and restaurants. The IPA results indicated that event-site accessibility, parking and public transportation convenience, the provision of locally distinctive food, and linkages with local commercial districts and accommodations were located in the “Concentrate Here” quadrant. In contrast, the yacht tour, experience booths, on-site response services, safety management, food-related events, linkages with tourism resources, the creation of an international-event atmosphere, and reinforcement of Tongyeong’s image as a marine leisure tourism city were identified in the “Keep Up the Good Work” quadrant. Accordingly, future international yacht events should improve accessibility and transportation convenience, strengthen connections with local food, commercial districts, accommodations, and tourism resources, and further develop the attributes in the “Keep Up the Good Work” quadrant as the event’s core competitive strengths. These strategies are expected to enhance the competitiveness of international yacht events while contributing to the revitalization of local tourism and the strengthening of the host city’s brand.

이 연구는 국제요트대회인 클리퍼 세계일주 요트대회 통영 기항 행사를 중심으로 주요 평가항목의 중요도와 만족도를 비교하고, IPA 매트릭스 분석을 통해 운영상 문제점과 우선 개선영역을 규명하여 발전 방안을 제시하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 관련 분야 전문가 51명을 대상으로 7개 영역 29개 평가항목을 조사하고, SPSS 29.0을 활용하여 대응표본 t-검정과 IPA 분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과, 경기정 투어를 제외한 대부분의 항목에서 중요도가 만족도보다 높았으며, 특히 행사장 접근성, 주차 및 대중교통 편의, 지역 상권·숙박·음식점 연계에서 차이가 크게 나타났다. IPA 분석에서는 행사장 접근성, 주차 및 대중교통 편의, 지역 특화 먹거리 제공, 지역 상권·숙박 연계가 집중노력영역으로 나타났으며, 경기정 투어, 체험부스, 현장 대응서비스, 안전관리, 미식행사, 관광자원 연계, 국제행사 분위기 및 해양레저관광도시 이미지 강화는 지속유지영역으로 확인되었다. 따라서 향후에는 접근성과 교통 편의를 개선하고 지역 먹거리와 상권·숙박·관광자원 연계를 강화하는 한편, 지속유지영역은 대회의 핵심 경쟁력으로 발전시킬 필요가 있다. 이러한 전략은 향후국제요트대회의 경쟁력을 통해 지역관광 활성화와 도시브랜드 강화에 기여할 수 있을 것이다.
