This study aims to examine the current state of choreographic Practice-Based Research conducted in doctoral programs in South Korea and to explore the conceptual conflation of ‘practice (technical skill)’ and ‘practice (as a research method)’. As for the research method, a mixed-methods approach combining quantitative and qualitative methods was employed, including data collection via the Research Information Sharing Service (RISS) and in-depth interviews with two doctoral candidates and two graduates. Based on the collected data, the study analyzed motivations for pursuing a doctoral program, the facilitating factors and limitations in conducting research, and the expected achievement of the research. As a result, three key prospects were derived. First, motivation for pursuing a doctoral program was driven by a complex interplay of social demands and academic aspirations. Second, the research participants held expectations regarding the expansion of their educational roles, which in turn led to a discussion on the professional expertise of instructors. Third, they commonly raised the need for advanced coursework that enables practical experience to be developed into academic discourse.

본 연구는 국내 무용 박사과정에서 수행되는 안무적 실천기반 연구의 현황을 분석하고, ‘실기’와 ‘실천’ 개념의 혼용 문제를 고찰하는데 목적을 둔다. 연구 방법으로는 학술연구정보서비스(RISS)를 활용한 문헌 자료 수집과 더불어 박사과정 재학생 및 졸업생 4명을 대상으로 한 심층 면담을 양적·질적 연구의 혼합 형태로 적용하였다. 수집된 자료를 토대로 박사과정 진학 동기, 안무적 실천기반 연구 수행 시 도움이 되는 점과 한계점, 그리고 기대하는 성취에 대해 분석하였으며, 그 결과 세 가지 핵심 과제를 도출하였다. 첫째, 박사과정 진학 동기는 사회적 요구와 개인의 학업 욕구가 복합적으로 작용한 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 연구참여자들은 교육적 역할의 확장에 대한 기대를 지니고 있었으며, 이는 지도자의 전문성에 대한 논의로 이어졌다. 셋째, 학문과 현장이 연결될 수 있는 교과목과 함께 실기 경험을 학술적 담론으로 발전할 수 있는 심화 교과목의 필요성이 공통적으로제기되었다.
