아동의 감각 경험 회복을 위한 기독교 교육 모델 연구 : Godly Play와 CGS의 비교 해석과 통합적 전망
A Study of Christian Education Models for Restoring Children’s Sensory Experience : A Comparative Interpretation of Godly Play and the CGS and an Integrative Perspective
Purpose of Research : This study explores Christian educational practices for restoring children’s sensory experience, focusing on the limited opportunities for direct and multisensory experience in digital environments. It compares Godly Play and the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) to examine how they understand and structure children’s sensory experience and to explore integrative directions for Christian education in Korean Protestant churches.
Research Content and Method : Based on a literature review, this study examines sensory experience in relation to embodied cognition and children’s spirituality. It analyzes major works and previous studies on Godly Play and CGS, comparing their understanding of children, perspectives on sensory experience, curriculum and environment, and the role of the teacher. Both models share a foundation in Montessori religious education, view children as active and relational spiritual beings, and emphasize sensory participation and the prepared environment. However, Godly Play places relatively greater emphasis on existential meaning-making through questioning, dialogue, and expression, whereas CGS emphasizes relationships with God and the created world through repetition, sustained engagement, and contemplation.
Conclusion and Suggestions : This study proposes Godly Play and CGS as complementary educational resources for restoring sensory experience. It suggests four directions for Christian education in Korean Protestant churches: prepared environments for diverse sensory experiences; time for reflection and rest; respect for children’s autonomy and agency; and an integrative curriculum connecting sensory experience with reflection and meaning-making. Ultimately, restoring children’s sensory experience means creating educational conditions in which they encounter the world through their bodies and senses, reflect on their experiences, and connect them to meaning in life and faith.
