The purpose of this study is to analyze the use and meaning of Japanese vocabulary by converting Jeju citrus research, which has been focused on agriculture and economics, to a Korean language perspective. The Jeju citrus vocabulary clearly shows not only the modern and contemporary agricultural history of Korea, but also the dynamic process in which foreign and native languages collide, converge, and settle. With the introduction of modern cultivation technology through Japan in the 1960s, Japanese vocabulary such as ‘Mikkang’, ‘Wase’, and ‘Dama’ was deeply rooted in the field, which gave rise to unique pronunciation habits such as ‘Mikkang Tada’ or Jeju's special educational culture of ‘Mikkang banghak.’ These words go beyond simple borrowing and combine with the Jeju dialect to form a hybrid word such as ‘Mikkangnang’, or coexist with indigenous words such as ‘Sukdenang’, Challi’, and ‘Pang’, supporting the professionalism of the field. In particular, ‘ Mangamnyu’, which is harvested late, originated from Japanese Chinese characters, but today, it is combining with modern brands such as ‘Hallabong’ and ‘Redeuhyang’ to create new industrial values. At the same time, expressions such as ‘Dolchanggo’ and ‘Jeouldari’ prove the Korean language's outstanding ability to control words that have not been lost despite the flooding of foreign languages. After all, the history of citrus vocabulary can be said to be the process of digesting the historical remnants of Japanese Chinese characters with the lives of Jeju people and the vitality of the Korean language. Recent efforts to purify terms are the work of adding a modern sense to this historical layer. These layered vocabulary are valuable language assets created by the climate of Jeju and the sweat of farmers, and will continue to evolve in line with the changes of the times.
