A Study on the International Market Entry Strategy of a Korean Smart Mobility Brand : The Case of Lima, Peru
This study aims to propose an international market entry strategy for the Korean smart mobility brand KMO (Korea Mobility Oasis), based on its brand identity. Drawing on Aaker’s brand identity framework, the study conceptualizes KMO’s core elements across four perspectives: product, organization, people, and symbol. From the product perspective, KMO emphasizes the integration of ICT-based infrastructures such as MaaS-based unified transfer and payment systems and smart shelters to enhance the user mobility experience. From the organizational, human, and symbolic perspectives, the brand highlights its core values of reliable information provision, technological leadership, and association with national image. Lima, Peru, is selected as the primary strategic market for KMO’s overseas entry. An analysis of the local public transportation infrastructure and ICT industry, as well as the operational structure of macro- and micro-mobility, revealed key issues, including disconnections between Metro Lines 1 and 2 and the BRT system, inefficiency and congestion in informal transport modes, and a lack of integrated information. In response, the study proposes a hub-specific KMO technology deployment strategy aligned with the brand identity. Specifically, the strategy includes: (1) enhancing accessibility through a MaaS-based integrated transfer and payment ecosystem, (2) improving pre-ride experience and air quality via smart shelters, and (3) upgrading metropolitan railway systems with sustainable operational management. The study contributes to the literature by demonstrating how brand identity can be systematically linked with international market entry strategies, offering practical guidance for promoting both national brand equity and technological capability in smart mobility. It also highlights the importance of integrating brand value with local operational strategies in overseas public transport markets.

(Mobility as a Service, MaaS), 스마트 쉘터(Smart Shelter), 통신기반 열차제어 시스템(Communication-Based Train Control, CBTC)을 중심으로 ‘용이한 접근성’, ‘정확한 정보 제공’, ‘체계적 운영 서비스’를 핵심 브랜드 가치로 설정하였다.
