This study examines changes in maritime perceptions through East Asian views of nature and philosophical understandings of water and the sea, exploring their implications for contemporary marine humanities. Focusing on Confucian and Lao-Zhuang thought, it traces how understandings of nature and water expanded to rivers and the sea. It also considers modern Japan’s changing maritime perceptions in relation to contemporary marine humanities. The sea’s philosophical meaning is interpreted through existence, relation, and becoming. The sea is understood as a space where humans and nature, regions and cultures form relationships and generate meaning. This perspective informs an interpretation of Yeongdo’s maritime culture, where local lives and memories shaped by the sea are continually reinterpreted. Cultural coexistence involves recognizing regional histories, identities, and cultural differences while enabling interaction. The practical significance of marine humanities lies in reinterpreting local histories and community memories and sustaining them within contemporary culture. By reinterpreting East Asian thought on nature, water, and the sea as a philosophical perspective on humannature relationships, this study extends its relevance to the lifeworld and cultural coexistence of maritime regions.

본 연구는 동아시아의 자연관과 물·바다에 대한 사유를 바탕으로 해양인식의 변화를 살펴보고, 현대 해양인문학을 해석할 수 있는 철학적 관점과 문화적 의미를 모색하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 유가와 노장사상을 중심으로 자연과 물에 대한 인식을 고찰하고, 물에 대한 사유가 강과 바다로 확장되는 과정을 살펴보았다. 또한 근대 일본의 사례를 통해 변화된 해양인식의 한 측면을 검토하고 현대 해양인문학의 인식 전환과 연결하였다. 이를 바탕으로 해양의 철학적 의미를 존재·관계·생성의 관점에서 해석하였다. 해양은 인간의 외부에 존재하는 대상이 아니라 인간과 자연, 지역과 문화가 관계를 형성하며 새로운 의미를 생성하는 공간으로 이해할 수 있다. 이러한 관점을 영도의 해양문화와 연결하여, 바다와 함께 형성된 지역의 삶과 기억이 현재의 문화 속에서 재해석되는 과정을 살펴보았다. 나아가 해양문화의 문화적 공존은 각 지역의 역사와 정체성, 문화적 차이를 인정하면서 교류하는 데 의미가 있으며, 해양인문학의 실천적 의미는 지역의 역사와 공동체의 기억을 현재의 문화 속에서 지속시키는 데 있음을 논의하였다. 이는 동아시아의 자연과 물·바다에 대한 사유를 인간과 자연의 관계를 성찰하는 철학적 관점으로 재해석하고, 이를 해양지역의 생활세계와 문화적 공존의 문제로 확장하였다는 데 의의가 있다.
