This study aimed to compare the use of disagreement speech acts among Korean native speakers (KNS), Thai native speakers (TNS), and Thai learners of Korean (TKL), and to examine the effects of social variables and psychological burden on strategy selection. To this end, a Discourse Completion Test (DCT) was administered to 50 participants from each group, and their responses were analyzed. The findings revealed that Thai learners of Korean, like Korean native speakers, primarily employed indirect disagreement strategies. However, they also tended to use direct expressions even in situations involving higher-status interlocutors and showed inconsistent adjustment of strategies according to social context. In addition, Thai learners experienced significantly higher levels of psychological burden than the other two groups, particularly in public situations and when interacting with less familiar interlocutors. Although they tended to mitigate disagreement by employing indirect strategies in situations involving high psychological burden, they made limited use of the acceptance strategy, which was frequently employed by Korean native speakers. Based on these findings, this study suggests that disagreement speech act instruction for Thai learners of Korean should include incorporate situation-based teaching that reflects social relationships and face-related cultural norms, a step-by-step approach that takes learners’ psychological burden into account, integrated instruction in mitigation strategies, guidance on the appropriate use of avoidance and neutral expressions, and comparative instruction on the differences in pragmatic strategies between Thai and Korean.

본 연구는 한국어 모어 화자, 태국어 모어 화자 그리고 태국인 한국어 학습자를 대상으로 비동의 화행의 사용 양상을 비교 분석하고 사회적 변인과 심리적 부담감이 전략선택에 미치는 영향을 고찰하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 각 집단 50명을 대상으로 담화 완성형 테스트를 실시하여 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 태국인 한국어 학습자는 한국어 모어 화자와 유사하게 암시적 전략을 중심으로 비동의를 수행하였으나 사회적 지위가 높은 상황에서도 직접적인 표현을 사용하거나 상황에 따른 전략 조절이 일관되지 않는 특징을 보였다. 또한 다른 두 집단보다 심리적 부담감이 높게 나타났으며 특히 공적 상황과 친밀도가 낮은 상황에서 이러한 경향이 두드러졌다. 부담감이 높은 상황에서는 암시적 전략을 활용하여 발화를 완곡하게 조정하려는 경향을 보였지만 한국어 모어 화자가 빈번하게 사용하는 ‘수용하기’ 전략의 활용은 제한적이었다. 향후 태국인 한국어 학습자를 위한 비동의 화행 교육에서는 사회적 관계와 체면 문화를 반영한 상황중심의 교육, 심리적 부담감을 고려한 단계적 화행 교육, 완화 전략의 통합적 교육, ‘회피하기’와 ‘중립 표현하기’의 적절한 사용 지도, 태국어와 한국어의 화용 전략 차이를 비교하는 교육이 이루어질 필요가 있다.
