한국어교육과 일본어교육의 연구 동향 대조 연구 : 한국 학술지 『한국어교육』과 일본 학술지 『日本語敎育』을 대상으로
A Comparative Study of Research Trends in Korean and Japanese Language Education : A Comparison of the Journal of Korean Language Education and the Journal of Japanese Language Education 한국어교육과 일본어교육의 연구 동향 대조 연구 : 한국 학술지 『한국어교육』과 일본 학술지 『일본어교육』을 대상으로
This study aims to comparatively analyze research trends in Korean and Japanese language education by examining 1,342 articles published between 2006 and 2025 in the Journal of Korean Language Education (893 articles) and the Journal of Japanese Language Education (449 articles). To minimize the influence of differences in linguistic representation between Korean and Japanese and to compare research topics within a shared semantic space, the English titles, abstracts, and keywords of the articles were used as the analytical data. BERTopic, an embedding-based topic modeling method, was applied to the corpus. The analysis identified 21 topics in the Journal of Korean Language Education and 13 topics in the Journal of Japanese Language Education. Research in Korean language education showed a relatively strong focus on learners and instructional content, including grammar and syntax, academic writing, pronunciation and interlanguage, and intercultural communication. In contrast, research in Japanese language education placed greater emphasis on educational settings and social contexts, including classroom observation, teacher professional development, multicultural coexistence, and actual language use. In the combined KoreanJapanese model, academic writing, interlanguage and pronunciation, intercultural communication, language proficiency assessment, discourse and pragmatics, and vocabulary acquisition were identified as shared research areas; however, clear differences were observed in their relative proportions and temporal changes. These findings indicate that, although Korean and Japanese language education share common research interests, the two fields have developed distinct research orientations in response to their respective educational contexts and research traditions. Furthermore, this comparative analysis provides a basis for understanding the relative position of Korean language education research and for exploring future directions for its development.
