This study compares the motifs of natural healing — understood here not as the body’s spontaneous recovery but as healing achieved through the restoration of the human relationship with nature — embedded in the creation myths of Mongolia and Jeju. It examines the Mongolian myths of Tenger and Etugen alongside Jeju’s Cheonjiwang Bonpuri, the Seolmundae-Halmang legends, and Segyeong Bonpuri, reinterpreting the archetypal attributes of sky and earth deities from this perspective. The comparison proceeds on two levels: what recurs across two ecologically distinct traditions, and how that shared structure takes different forms under different ecological conditions. Three motifs recur in both traditions. The first is the restoration of cosmic homeostasis: creator deities transform primordial chaos into an order in which life can arise. The second is maternal embodiment and the generation of life: Etugen in Mongolia, and Seolmundae-Halmang and Jacheongbi in Jeju, embody an earth-mother archetype that turns famine and deprivation into fertility and abundance; with Jacheongbi’s five grains, that provision shifts from a single act of rescue to a lasting capacity for self-sustenance. The third is regeneration and reconciliation: the primordial breath and life-giving water of the Mongolian narratives, together with the resurrection flowers of Jeju, restore wounded or distorted beings and reweave severed relationships into an order of coexistence. The forms differ. In Mongolia, creation is integrated under a supreme sky deity; in Jeju, it is divided between Cheonjiwang and Seolmundae-Halmang and extended through Jacheongbi. Beneath this difference, both traditions treat nature as the ground of life and of its recovery. Reading them together shows two culturally distinct traditions sharing a ground for intercultural understanding, and opens for multicultural education a layer beyond the recognition of diversity — the discovery of common archetypes. The motifs identified here may further serve as archetypal textual resources for poetry therapy, though their translation into an actual program remains a task for subsequent research.
