A Study on the Curriculum for a Caring Faith Community in Response to Community-Integrated Care : Focusing on Maria Harris's Curriculum
This paper analyzes the purpose, significance, direction, and limitations of community-based integrated care and, centered on Maria Harris’s, proposes a curriculum for a caring faith community that stands as a member of the local community. Humans are beings who receive care, and at the same time, beings who care for others. In particular, Korea has now entered a super-aged society. As the beings who have cared for others in Korean society until now become beings in need of care, we have entered an era in which a network of care is even more necessary. From this perspective, a social awareness emerged that a care system must be established, and this was institutionalized at both the community and national levels as “integrated care.” However, the implementation of the Integrated Care Support Act does not fully meet the needs of those in need of care. The care system of integrated support still has its limitations. This article proposes five suggestions, from the perspective of Christian education based on Maria Harris’s educational curriculum, for the church to overcome the limitations of integrated care and to become a faith community of care as an alternative. First, the kerygma of care must proclaim an identity as the people of God’s kingdom-that is, an ontological recognition. Second, the didache of care means that every member of the faith community becomes both an agent and a participant in care. Third, the leiturgia of care means that holistic restoration takes place, extending beyond the physical care of the person being cared for, including emotional, relational, social, and spiritual dimension. Fourth, the koinonia of care embodies love as a hospitable community. Fifth, the diakonia of care plays on the role of a mesosystem that goes beyond individual care and forms an ecosystem of care.
