This study analyzes the structure of therapeutic thirdness formed within the counselor-client relationship and aims to present the ontological distinctions and the counseling-ethical limitations required when interpreting it from a pneumatological perspective. To this end, the study first examines how therapeutic thirdness has been understood in mainstream counseling and Christian pastoral counseling. It then analyzes the emotional, unconscious, and narrative field formed between counselor and client through the concepts of intersubjectivity and Antonino Ferro's field theory. Methodologically, this study employs a conceptual-analytic review of the relevant literature; its aim is not the empirical measurement of concepts but the refinement of the boundaries between them and of the rules governing their use. Thomas Ogden's analytic third, Jessica Benjamin's intersubjective thirdness, and Ferro's analytic field are selected as the clinical objects of analysis, while Paul Tillich's Spiritual Presence and Jürgen Moltmann's Spirit of Life are selected as the theological objects of analysis. In particular, Ferro's concepts of dreaming and unsaturated interpretation provide a theoretical framework in which the client’s previously unverbalized experiences can be newly articulated and reconstructed within the therapeutic relationship, without being subjected to the counselor's unilateral interpretation. The study subsequently examines the possibilities and limitations of a theological interpretation of therapeutic thirdness, focusing on Tillich's Spiritual Presence and Moltmann's Spirit of Life. Whereas Ferro's analytic field is a clinical phenomenon co-created through the interaction between counselor and client, the Holy Spirit must be distinguished as a theological and personal reality that cannot be reduced to that relationship. The two are therefore not identical concepts and may be related only through a limited structural analogy: both resist the monopolization of relational meaning by any single subject. Furthermore, spirituality in counseling may function as a mediating category that provides an interdisciplinary link between therapeutic thirdness and the Holy Spirit without fully identifying them. By exploring the relationship among therapeutic thirdness, spirituality, and the Holy Spirit, this study proposes a basis for dialogue between mainstream counseling and Christian pastoral counseling. It also calls for further research into how the triadic presence of the Holy Spirit is experienced and ethically applied in trauma counseling, grief counseling, church conflict, and pastoral counseling settings.
