The Impact of Inclusive Brand Communication on Consumer Responses: The Parallel Mediating Roles of Brand Trust and Brand Attitude
Objectives This study investigates how brand communication that respects social diversity and reflects inclusive values affects consumer brand trust, brand attitude, and behavioral intentions. It empirically analyzes the parallel mediating roles of brand trust and brand attitude in the relationship between perceived inclusive brand communication and behavioral intentions, viewed through a relationship management lens in public relations.
Methods An online survey was conducted with 300 adult consumers who, within the past six months, had encountered inclusive brand communications reflecting community values, such as gender equality, multicultural acceptance, and support for the underprivileged. Data analysis was performed using IBM SPSS Statistics 29 and Hayes's PROCESS macro (Model 4) for descriptive statistics, correlation, and parallel mediation analysis. Additionally, a word cloud analysis of open-ended responses was conducted.
Results The findings indicate that perceived inclusive brand communication has a significant positive effect on brand trust, brand attitude, and behavioral intentions. Furthermore, both brand trust and brand attitude significantly mediate the relationship between perceived inclusive brand communication and behavioral intentions, suggesting that inclusive values motivate action through both cognitive and affective pathways.
Gender analysis revealed that female consumers responded more positively than males across all key variables. In terms of age, a significant difference was found in perceived inclusive brand communication, whereas brand response variables, including brand trust, brand attitude, and behavioral intentions, showed no significant differences.
Conclusions The results suggest that inclusive brand communication goes beyond enhancing brand image and leads to actual consumption behavior by building brand trust and brand attitude as relational and affective assets. This underscores the importance of authentically representing social diversity and inclusivity in public relations strategies to establish long-term consumer-brand relationships and achieve sustainable outcomes.
