Swimming is a representative recorded sport in which athletes compete by measuring records within a certain distance, and it is characterized by objective figures in the performance of athletes. In particular, elite college swimmers are performing a lot of training to improve their performance in a repetitive and high-intensity training process, but recently, it has been suggested that it is difficult to explain the improvement of their performance only by simply increasing the amount of training. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of quantitative training of college swimmers on their performance and to find out the correlation between the amount of training and the performance to suggest an efficient training direction. The subject of the study was selected as male elite swimmers belonging to the university, and data were collected focusing on the athletes' weekly training and intensity, sports characteristics, and changes in competition records. Quantitative training was classified based on weekly swimming distance, repetition frequency, and intensity, and performance was analyzed centering on changes in official competition records. As a result of literature review, it was found that quantitative training up to a certain level had a positive effect on the improvement of performance, but it was confirmed that excessive training led to accumulation of fatigue and decreased recovery, thereby increasing the possibility of stagnation in performance and deterioration in records. In addition, there was a difference in the training method and the appropriate amount of training required between sprinters and long-distance athletes, and it was confirmed that even with the same amount of training, performance changes may vary depending on the individual player's condition and recovery. This means that swimming performance is not determined by a simple increase in training volume, but is the result of a combination of training quality, recovery, and skill performance. This study is significant in that it comprehensively analyzed the relationship between quantitative training and performance of university swimmers, and it is practical in that it suggested the need for efficient training design considering individual athlete characteristics and event characteristics rather than an unconditional increase in training volume.
