This study aimed to examine differences in intergroup contact experiences and perceptions of cultural diversity between Korean undergraduate and graduate students and international students, as well as the relationship between intergroup contact experiences and perceptions of cultural diversity. Using convenience sampling, an online survey was conducted with 82 participants, including 42 Korean undergraduate and graduate students and 40 international students. The data were analyzed using exploratory factor analysis, reliability analysis, descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation analysis, and independent-samples t-tests. The results showed that international students reported significantly higher levels of intergroup contact experiences than Korean undergraduate and graduate students, whereas no significant difference was found between the two groups in perceptions of cultural diversity. In addition, no significant correlation was found between intergroup contact experiences and perceptions of cultural diversity. These findings suggest that understanding cultural diversity in higher education requires consideration not only of the extent of contact but also of the relational characteristics and contexts in which contact occurs.

최근 국내 고등교육기관의 외국인 유학생 증가로 대학 내 문화적 다양성이 확대되고 있으나, 한국인 학생과 외국인 유학생의 상호접촉 경험과 문화다양성 인식을 함께 살펴본 연구는 제한적이다. 이에 본 연구는 한국인 대학(원)생과 외국인 유학생의 상호접촉 경험과 문화다양성 인식의 차이를 비교하고, 상호접촉 경험과 문화 다양성 인식 간의 관계를 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 편의표집을 통해 모집한 한국인 대학(원)생 42명과 외국인 유학생 40명, 총 82명을 대상으로 온라인 설문조사를 실시하였으며, 탐색적 요인분석, 신뢰도분석, 기술통계분석, Pearson 상관분석 및 독립표본 t-검정을 실시하였다. 분석 결과, 외국인 유학생의 상호접촉 경험은 한국인 대학(원)생보다 유의하게 높았으나, 문화다양성 인식에서는 두 집단 간 유의한 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 또한 상호접촉 경험과 문화다양성 인식간에도 유의한 상관관계가 나타나지 않았다. 이러한 결과는 상호접촉 경험의 정도가 문화다양성 인식의 차이와 직접적으로 연결되지 않을 가능성을 보여주며, 대학 내 문화다양성을 이해하기 위해서는 접촉의 정도뿐만 아니라 접촉이 이루어지는 관계적 특성과 맥락을 함께 고려할 필요가 있음을 시사한다.
