A Study on Multicultural Acceptance among Japanese University Students ─ Focusing on Differences by Personal Attributes ─
This study examined multicultural acceptance among 515 Japanese university students in the Kanto region using the Korean Multiculturalism Inventory (KMCI). Results showed a moderate level of multicultural acceptance, with attitudes toward multiculturalism and foreign migrants that were neither wholly positive nor negative. Female students expressed fewer negative attitudes than males, while science-related majors showed more negative attitudes. Overseas experience was associated with greater acceptance of cultural differences. Students with family members of foreign origin showed higher levels of rejection-avoidance and ambivalent evaluative attitudes. The findings suggest that multicultural acceptance varies according to individual characteristics and intercultural experiences, highlighting the importance of educational support for building an inclusive society.
