This study aims to develop an Object-Based Dress Education Model that enables museum visitors and students to interpret dress not merely as clothing but as material culture and a cultural heritage text that embodies the social and cultural contexts of its time. To achieve this objective, the study integrates Object-Based Learning (OBL) as the instructional method, dress iconographic analysis as the learning content, and Falk and Dierking's Contextual Model of Learning as the educational framework. The research was conducted through a review of relevant theories and previous studies, followed by a comparative analysis of dress education programs at the Victoria and Albert Museum (United Kingdom), The Museum at FIT (United States), and the University of Glasgow (United Kingdom). In addition, domestic museum programs focusing on craft-making activities and traditional Korean dress-wearing experiences were examined using the same analytical framework. Based on the findings, an object-based dress education program applicable to Korean museum contexts was designed. The findings indicate that overseas cases demonstrate strengths in either object-based learning or dress interpretation. However, no program was found to integrate Object-Based Learning, dress iconographic analysis, and the Contextual Model of Learning into a single educational process. Likewise, most Korean museum programs remain centered on craft activities and dress-wearing experiences, while educational approaches that interpret dress as a cultural heritage text remain limited. Accordingly, this study proposes an integrated Object-Based Dress Education Model and develops an educational program emphasizing the sequential processes of observation and exploration, description, deduction, wear analysis, interpretation, and reflection and sharing through dress artifacts. The proposed model extends dress education beyond experience-based activities toward heritage interpretation and provides both a theoretical framework and practical guidance for designing and implementing museum dress education programs.

본 연구의 목적은 복식을 단순한 의생활 자료가 아니라 사회와 문화를 담고 있는 물질문화이자 문화유산 텍스트로 이해하고, 일반 관람객과 학생들이 이를 능동적으로 해석할 수 있도록 지원하는 유물기반 복식교육 모형을 설계하는 데 있다. 이를 위해 유물기반학습(Object-Based Learning)을 교육 방법으로, 복식 도상학적 분석을 교육 내용으로, Falk와 Dierking의 맥락적 학습(Contextual Model of Learning)을 교육 조건으로 통합한 교육모형을 제안하였다. 연구는 관련 이론과 선행연구를 검토한 후, 제안한 교육모형을 기준으로 영국 Victoria and Albert Museum(V&A), 미국 Museum at FIT, 영국 University of Glasgow의 복식교육 사례를 분석하고, 국내의 만들기 중심 프로그램과 한복 착장 체험 프로그램을 동일한 기준으로 비교하였다. 사례 분석에서는 유물기반학습, 복식 도상학적 분석, 맥락적 학습 및 세 요소의 통합성을 공통 분석기준으로 적용하였다. 이를 바탕으로 국내 박물관 환경에 적용 가능한 복식교육 프로그램을 설계하였다. 분석 결과, 해외 사례는 유물기반학습 또는 복식 해석의 일부 측면에서 각각 강점을 보였으나, 유물기반학습, 복식 도상학적 분석, 맥락적 학습을 하나의 교육 활동으로 통합한 사례는 확인되지 않았다. 국내 사례 역시 만들기와 착장 체험 중심의 교육이 대부분으로, 복식을 문화유산 텍스트로 해석하는 교육은 상대적으로 부족한 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 이론적 검토를 바탕으로 세 요소를 통합한 유물기반 복식교육 모형을 제안하였다. 이후 국내외 사례 분석을 통해 기존 프로그램의 특성과 모형의 현장 적용을 위해 고려해야 할 조건을 탐색하고, 이를 반영하여 단계별 복식교육 프로그램을 구체화하였다. 본 연구는 복식교육의 범위를 체험 중심에서 문화유산 해석 중심으로 확장하는 교육모형을 제안하였으며, 향후 박물관 복식교육 프로그램의 설계와 운영을 위한 이론적･실천적 기반을 제공한다.
