This paper sheds light on the aspects of genre interaction and narrative characteristics of 18th-century Yadam, focusing on the lives of extraordinary individuals. 18th-century Yadam elevated its narrative consciousness by adopting styles from previous eras, such as Jeongi and Jeon, while contemporary Jeon established biographies of figures identical to the protagonists of Yadam, transforming their extraordinary aspects and deeds into literary works. Since this genre interaction between Yadam and Jeon, along with the narrativeization of extraordinary individuals, weakened after reaching its peak in the 18th century, the necessity and significance of related research are considerable. The research results show that 18th-century Yadam and Jeon completed a flexible narrative style by traversing genres, and the analyzed works[stories of Seolsaeng, Geomseung, and Sugeupbi] developed their narratives by focusing on the unique characteristics of extraordinary individuals who demonstrated exceptional life trajectories. In short, the introduction of characters at the beginning of the works and the verification of records at the end demonstrate that Yadam shared the factual accuracy of Jeon, while the source stories[Ilhwa], which dealt in earnest with the lives of extraordinary individuals and specific events, embodied the fictional nature of Yadam in their interesting narrative. Through this genre interaction, the narrative quality of 18th-century Yadam was further strengthened.

본고는 18세기 야담의 장르 교섭 양상과 서사적 특징을 이인(異人)의 삶을 중심으로 조명한 것이다. 18세기 야담(野談)은 전기(傳奇)와 전(傳) 등 전대(前代)의 양식을 수용하여 서사 의식을 높였으며, 동시대 전(傳)은 야담 주인공과 동일한 인물을 입전(立傳)하여 그 이인적 면모와 행적을 작품화하였다. 이러한 야담과 전의 장르 교섭과 이인의 서사화는 18세기를 정점으로 약화되었기에 관련 연구의 필요와 의미가 크다. 연구 결과, 18세기 야담과 전은 장르를 넘나들며 유연한 서사체를 완성하였고, 분석한 작품들[설생, 검승, 수급비 이야기]은 남다른 삶의 궤적을 보여준 이인의 특장(特長)에 주목하여 서사를 전개하였다. 요컨대 작품 서두의 인물 소개와 말미의 기록 검증은 야담이 전의 사실성을 공유한 것이며, 본격적으로 이인의 삶과 특정 사건을 다룬 근원 이야기[逸話]는 야담의 허구성을 흥미로운 서사로 구현한 것이다. 이러한 장르 교섭을 통해 18세기 야담의 서사성이 더욱 강화되었다.
