This study aims to identify the factors shaping Koryoin remigration to South Korea and to develop a decision model explaining their remigration based on the retrospectively recalled decision-making experiences of Koryoin currently residing in South Korea. An exploratory sequential mixed-methods design was employed. In-depth interviews were conducted with 15 Koryoin residing in South Korea, and the constructs derived from the qualitative analysis were used to develop survey items. Subsequently, responses were collected from 182 adult Koryoin aged 19 years or older by asking them to retrospectively recall their circumstances and perceptions immediately before making their final decision to move to South Korea. The data were analyzed using exploratory factor analysis and hierarchical regression analysis. The qualitative analysis identified six factors: livelihood and employment instability, anxiety about the future of oneself and one’s family, the attractiveness of opportunity structures in South Korea, ethnic and cultural affinity, settlement support resources, and anticipated settlement barriers. The quantitative results showed that livelihood and employment instability, the attractiveness of opportunity structures in South Korea, and settlement support resources were significantly and positively associated with retrospectively measured remigration intention, whereas anticipated settlement barriers were significantly and negatively associated with it. Anxiety about the future of oneself and one’s family and ethnic and cultural affinity did not show significant independent effects. In particular, the explanatory power of the model increased substantially after the Mooring factors were added. These findings indicate that, in the remigration decision-making process retrospectively recalled by Koryoin residing in South Korea, assessments of practical settlement feasibility were importantly associated with remigration intention alongside conditions in the places of origin and destination. This study contributes to understanding Koryoin remigration to South Korea not merely as ethnic return, but as a complex decision-making process in which realistic opportunities and settlement feasibility were considered at the time of remigration.

본 연구는 한국으로 이주한 국내 체류 고려인이 회고한 재이주 결정과정을 토대로 한국 재이주 결정요인을 규명하고 이를 설명하는 재이주 결정모델을 개발하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 탐색적 순차 혼합연구를 적용하여 국내 체류 고려인 15 명을 심층면담하고 질적분석에서 도출된 구성개념을 토대로 설문문항을 개발하였다. 이어 만 19세 이상 고려인 182명을 대상으로 한국행을 최종적으로 결정하기 직전의 상황과 인식을 회고하도록 하여 수집한 응답에 대해 탐색적 요인분석과위계적 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 질적분석에서는 생계·고용 불안정, 본인·가족의 미래 불안, 한국 기회구조의 매력, 민족적·문화적 친화성, 정착지원자원, 예상 정착장벽의 여섯 요인이 도출되었다. 양적분석 결과, 생계·고용 불안정, 한국기회구조의 매력, 정착지원자원은 회고적으로 측정한 한국 재이주의도와 유의한정적 관계를 보였으며, 예상 정착장벽은 유의한 부적 관계를 보였다. 반면 본인· 가족의 미래 불안과 민족적·문화적 친화성은 유의한 독립효과를 보이지 않았다. 특히 Mooring 요인 투입 후 모형의 설명력이 크게 증가하였다. 이는 국내 체류 고려인이 회고한 재이주 결정과정에서 출발지와 목적지의 조건뿐 아니라 실제 정착가능성에 대한 판단이 중요하게 관련되어 있음을 보여준다. 본 연구는 고려인의한국행을 민족적 귀환으로만 설명하기보다 재이주 당시 현실적 기회와 정착 가능성을 함께 고려한 복합적인 의사결정 과정으로 설명하였다는 데 의의가 있다.
