Spatial Representation and Its Significance in Yun Pil-byeong’s Eogo Poetry: Focusing on “Seongsi Jeondo Si,” “Geumgang Ilman Icheonbong,” and “Yuhajeong Haeng” 윤필병 어고시의 공간 형상화와 그 의미 ― <성시전도시>·<금강일만이천봉>·<유하정행>을 중심으로 ―
This study examines Yun Pil-byeong(尹弼秉)’s Eogo Poetry(御考詩), including “Seongsi Jeondo Si (城市全圖詩),” “Geumgang Ilman Icheonbong (金剛一萬二千峯),” and “Yuhajeong Haeng (流霞亭行),” contained in Muhoamjip (無號菴集). It first examines the operation of Eungje(應製) during the reign of King Jeongjo and the creative contexts of these works, and then analyzes the patterns of spatial representation in the three poems and their significance. When the three poems are examined as an organically connected group of works, Hanyang, Mt. Geumgang, and Yuhajeong are reconstructed not merely as poetic settings but as symbolic spaces in which political and cultural values are embodied. “Seongsi Jeondo Si” represents Hanyang as a political space where royal governance and the rule of civil culture are realized. “Geumgang Ilman Icheonbong” constructs Mt. Geumgang as a sacred ideal space by relativizing the Daoist immortal realm of China and combining Buddhist and Daoist imagery with mythological allusions. “Yuhajeong Haeng,” meanwhile, portrays Yuhajeong as a space of cultural practice grounded in historical memory and the scholarly and social interactions of literati. Yun Pil-byeong also organically combines diverse allusions and images, expanding the meanings of space in ways suited to the form and content of each work. In particular, King Jeongjo’s evaluative remark “Seom(贍)” concerning “Seongsi Jeondo Si” aptly demonstrates Yun Pil-byeong’s poetic ability to accommodate a wide range of materials while organizing them into an organic whole. This supports the view that his Eogo Poetry represents a literary achievement in which the meanings of space are constructed through the effective use of diverse allusions and images, rather than merely constituting products of Eungje. Furthermore, the relevant records of the Ilseongnok (日省錄) were examined to supplement our understanding of the operation of Eungje during the reign of King Jeongjo and the creative contexts of these works. The three poems are also significant in that they form a coherent spatial structure of royal governance as political reality, transcendent ideality, and the practice of literati culture, thereby revealing the creative principles and characteristics of Eogo Poetry during the reign of King Jeongjo.
