This study examines ‘Gebrauchsanweisung für Nachbarn’, co-authored by Martin Hyun, a second-generation immigrant writer in Germany, and Wladimir Kaminer, a Russian-German writer, focusing on how cultural boundaries are transformed into spaces of contact and coexistence through the authors’ transnational identities and representations of neighborly relations. Based primarily on text-centered narrative analysis, the study draws on the perspectives of transnational identity and interculturality, while employing Homi K. Bhabha’s concept of the “Third Space” to examine how cultural differences and boundaries are negotiated and reconfigured within Berlin as a multicultural “in-between space” (Zwischen-Raum). It also explores how the authors’ different migration experiences and poetics converge to form a collaborative narrative and how the work crosses the boundaries between immigrant literature and popular literature. The analysis shows that ‘Gebrauchsanweisung für Nachbarn’ expands the traditional concerns of immigrant literature—identity, homeland, and belonging—toward more universal concerns of neighborly relations and everyday coexistence, while making cultural differences and conflicts accessible through humor and episodes drawn from everyday life. In this respect, the work constructs a narrative of contact and coexistence within the cultural “in-between” while simultaneously crossing the boundary between immigrant literature and popular literature. It thus demonstrates the potential of “in-between literature” (Zwischen-Literatur) and suggests a new position for immigrant literature within the contemporary German literary field.

본 연구는 독일 이민 2세 작가 마르틴 현과 러시아계 독일 작가 블라디미르 카미너의 공동 저작 『이웃 사용설명서』를 중심으로, 두 작가의 트랜스내셔널 정체성과 이웃 관계를 통해 문화적 경계가 접촉과 공존의 공간으로 전환되는 양상을 분석한다. 텍스트 중심의 서사 분석을 기본으로 트랜스내셔널 정체성과 상호문화성의 관점을 보조적으로 활용하고, 호미 바바의 “제3의 공간(Third Space)” 개념을 통해 베를린이라는 다문화적 ‘사이-공간’(Zwischen-Raum)에서 문화적 차이와 경계가 협상되고 재구성되는 과정을 고찰하였다. 또한 서로 다른 이주 경험과 시학이 공동 서사로 형성되는 방식과 이 작품이 이민문학과 대중문학의 경계를 확장하는 과정에 주목하였다. 연구 결과, 『이웃 사용설명서』는 정체성, 고향, 소속이라는 전통적인 이민문학의 주제를 이웃과 일상적 공존이라는 보편적 문제로 확장하고, 문화적 차이와 갈등을 유머와 일상적 에피소드를 통해 대중적으로 서사화한다. 이를 통해 이 작품은 문화와 문화의 ‘사이’에서 접촉과 공존의 서사를 형성하는 동시에, 이민문학과 대중문학의 ‘사이’를 가로지르는 ‘사이-문학’(Zwischen-Literatur)의 가능성과 현대 독일 문학장 내 이민문학의 새로운 위치를 보여준다.
