This study aimed to explore how pre-service elementary teachers' perceptions of vegetable gardens and school gardens changed following a semester-long school garden course. Twenty-five pre-service teachers enrolled in the "School Garden" course at C University during the second semester of 2025 completed a survey with identical items at the beginning of the course (Week 1), and 21 of them provided valid responses at the end (Week 14). The data were analyzed through keyword frequency analysis, semantic network analysis, and inductive content analysis of open-ended responses. The main findings are as follows. First, keywords associated with "garden" shifted from concrete referents such as lettuce and soil toward concepts reflecting educational and social values, such as urban agriculture, emotion, sense of achievement, and sustainability. Second, keywords associated with "school garden" were restructured from institutional and physical contexts, such as Practical Arts and school, toward experience-centered concepts such as harvest, growth, and achievement. Third, in both semantic networks, concrete referents were replaced by higher-level educational concepts among the most central nodes. Fourth, the content analysis showed that responses classified as "difficulty and negative experience" in plant cultivation decreased while those describing active caring behaviors increased; in the definitions of a school garden, the "simple activity and cultivation" category declined markedly, whereas the "growth and development," "educational value," and "hands-on experience" categories increased. These findings suggest that the experience of a school garden course may play a meaningful role in shifting pre-service teachers' perceptions from a cultivation-centered view toward an educational value-centered perspective. However, as this study is a pre-post comparison of a single course without a control group, the findings should be interpreted as exploratory evidence.

본 연구는 학교텃밭 강의를 수강한 예비 초등교사의 텃밭 및 학교텃밭에 대한 인식이 어떠한 변화양상을 보이는지 탐색하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 2025학년도 2학기 동안 C대학교에서 ‘학교텃밭’ 강의를 수강한 예비교사 25명을 대상으로 강의 수강 전(1주차)과 후(14주차)에 동일한 문항으로 조사를 실시하고, 키워드 빈도 분석, 의미연결망 분석, 서술형 응답에 대한 내용분석을 수행하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, ‘텃밭’ 연상 키워드는 수강 전 상추·흙 등 구체적 식물명 중심에서 수강 후 도시농업·정서·성취감·지속가능성 등 교육적·사회적 가치를 반영하는 키워드로 변화하였다. 둘째, ‘학교텃밭’ 연상 키워드는 실과·학교 등 제도적·물리적 맥락에서 수확·성장·성취감 등 체험 중심으로 재구조화되었다. 셋째, 의미연결망 분석에서 두 네트워크 모두 구체적 식물명 중심에서 교육적 개념어 중심으로 핵심 키워드가 재구성되었다. 넷째, 서술형 내용분석에서 식물 키우기 경험의 ‘어려움·부정 경험’이 감소하고 ‘관심·돌봄 행동’이 증가하였으며, 학교텃밭 정의에서 ‘단순 활동·재배’가 급감하고 ‘성장·발달’, ‘교육적 가치’, ‘체험·실습’ 범주가 증가하였다. 이러한 결과는 학교텃밭 강의 경험이 예비교사의 인식을 재배 중심에서 교육적 가치 중심으로 전환하는 데 의미 있는 역할을 할 수 있음을 시사한다. 다만 본 연구는 통제집단 없는 단일 강좌의 사전·사후 비교라는 점에서 그 결과를 탐색적 근거로 해석할 필요가 있다.
