With the rapid development of information technology and continuous economic growth, the widespread adoption of mobile Internet and the expansion of the fan economy have enabled Generation Z to become a major consumer group. Unlike traditional consumers, Generation Z places greater emphasis on interaction, emotional experience, and individual identity in the consumption process. Their purchasing behavior is no longer limited to acquiring products themselves but increasingly reflects the pursuit of emotional empathy and psychological satisfaction embodied in intellectual property (IP). In recent years, Pop Mart has rapidly emerged as one of the most influential designer toy brands in China and Asia through its blind box mechanism, IP operation strategy, and social media communication, while also achieving remarkable popularity in overseas markets such as South Korea and Japan. This phenomenon demonstrates how participatory culture has reshaped the consumption psychology and behavioral patterns of Generation Z. Based on Henry Jenkins’ Participatory Culture theory, this study adopts literature analysis and case study methods to examine how emotional empathy motivates Generation Z to participate in Pop Mart’s consumption practices and to explore the underlying factors behind the brand's remarkable success. The findings indicate that Pop Mart has successfully established a participatory cultural consumption model characterized by emotional identification, community belonging, and cultural participation through blind box unboxing rituals, algorithm-driven social media dissemination, and the cross-cultural adaptability of its visual language. This study argues that Pop Mart's success cannot be explained solely by commercial marketing strategies. Rather, it reflects a broader transformation in contemporary youth consumer culture from the ownership of products to active participation in cultural production and dissemination.
