This study aims to analyze the appreciation education content related to Sujecheon in middle school music textbooks and propose improvements based on the findings. A total of 14 middle school music textbooks developed under the 2022 Revised National Curriculum were examined, and 11 textbooks that include Sujecheon were selected for analysis. The analytical framework was constructed with reference to prior studies on textbook analysis of Korean traditional music repertoire, comprising six categories: description of the musical piece, musical characteristics, instrumentation, musical score, appreciation materials, and learning activities. The level of presentation for each item was assessed using a three-tier scale. The analysis revealed the following findings. First, while ten textbooks provided descriptions of the musical piece, only a small number offered detailed explanations of the meaning of the title or its historical development. Second, the presentation of musical characteristics was heavily concentrated on yeoneum form, with few textbooks addressing junbak, gallachineun jangdan, tempo, or the 18-beat rhythmic structure in a balanced manner. Third, although ten textbooks included musical scores, there was a pronounced bias toward Western staff notation. Fourth, four textbooks provided no QR codes for appreciation materials, and among the seven that did, three provided audio-only materials. Fifth, explicit learning activities were found in only three textbooks, and their content remained at a basic level, limited mainly to identifying instrument names or locating passages in yeoneum form. Based on these findings, this study proposes four improvements: systematizing musical piece descriptions, achieving a balanced presentation of musical characteristics, diversifying and improving the quality of appreciation materials, and designing learning activities that progressively deepen students’ understanding. This study is significant in that it provides a systematic overview of the current state of Sujecheon appreciation education in middle school music textbooks and offers foundational data for future textbook development and the improvement of Korean traditional music appreciation instruction.

본 연구는 2022 개정 교육과정에 따른 중학교 음악 교과서① 14종 전체를 대상으로 수제천이 수록된 11종의 감상 교육 내용을 분석하고, 그 결과를 토대로 개선 방안을 제시하는 데 목적이 있다. 분석틀은 국악 제재 관련 교과서 분석 선행연구를 참고하여 악곡 설명, 음악적 특징, 악기 편성, 악보, 감상 자료, 학습활동의 6개 범주로 구성하였으며, 각 항목의 제시 수준을 세 단계로 구분하여 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 악곡 설명에서는 10종이 용어 설명을 제시하였으나 곡명의 의미나 역사적 변천을 상세히 서술한 교과서는 소수에 그쳤다. 음악적 특징에서는 연음형식에 편중된 경향이 뚜렷하였으며, 준박ㆍ갈라치는 장단ㆍ느린 빠르기ㆍ18박 장단 구조 등을 균형 있게 다룬 교과서는 드물었다. 악기 편성에서는 악기 목록과 사진을 함께 제시한 교과서가 가장 많았으나, 시각 자료가 전혀 없는 교과서도 확인되었다. 악보는 10종에서 수록되었으나 오선보 위주의 편중이 나타났다. 감상 자료에서는 4종이 QR코드를 제공하지 않았으며, 제공한 7종 중에서도 순수 음원만 제공한 경우가 3종으로 가장 많았다. 학습활동은 3종에서만 제시되었고, 그 내용도 악기 이름 확인이나 연음형식 찾기 수준에 머물렀다. 이러한 분석 결과를 토대로 본 연구는 악곡 설명의 체계화, 음악적 특징의 균형 있는 구성, 감상 자료의 다양화 및 질적 보완, 학습활동의 단계적 심화를 개선 방안으로 제안하였다. 본 연구는 현행 교과서의 수제천 감상 교육 내용 실태를 체계적으로 파악하고, 향후 교과서 개발 및 국악 감상 수업의 질적 향상을 위한 기초자료를 제공한다는 점에서 의의가 있다.
