Although Seoul is a city where performing arts resources are highly concentrated, empirical research examining who visits performing arts venues and under what social conditions fine arts attendance takes place has remained insufficient. This study analyzes the individual- and district-level factors affecting Seoul citizens’ attendance at fine arts performances, using data from the 2024 Seoul Citizens’ Cultural Participation Survey (SCCPS). A binary logistic regression analysis was first conducted, followed by a multilevel logistic regression model in which autonomous districts (gu) were set as the higher-level units. The results show that gender, age group, educational attainment, and average monthly household income were significantly associated with the likelihood of attending fine arts performances, while occupational status and marital status showed significant differences only in select categories. Among district-level factors, only median age and the number of private performing arts venues were statistically significant. These findings indicate that attendance at fine arts performances among Seoul citizens is explained more strongly by individual sociodemographic characteristics than by district-level conditions. This study is significant in that it approaches performing arts attendance as a matter of social conditions, using citywide statistical data rather than focusing on a specific audience group. It also focuses on fine arts performance attendance within the broader context of cultural enjoyment and empirically considers district-level regional factors that have not been sufficiently addressed in previous research. Future research should incorporate attendance frequency, expenditure levels, and genre-specific experiences to construct a more nuanced understanding of performing arts participation.

서울은 공연예술 자원이 집중된 도시이지만, 공연장을 찾는 시민들은 누구이며 어떤 사회적 조건 속에서 순수예술 공연관람이 이루어지는지를 실증적으로 검토한 연구는 부족했다. 이에 본 연구는 「서울시민 문화향유 실태조사」 2024년 자료를 활용하여 순수예술 공연관람 여부에 영향을 미치는 개인 수준 요인과 지역 수준 요인을 분석했다. 먼저 이항 로지스틱 회귀분석을 실시한 뒤, 자치구를 상위수준으로 설정한 다층 로지스틱 회귀모형을 적용했다. 분석 결과, 성별, 연령대, 학력, 월 평균 가계소득은 공연예술 관람 가능성과 유의한 관계를 보였으며, 직업군과 혼인상태 는 일부 범주에서만 차이가 나타났다. 지역 수준 요인 중에서는 중위연령과 민간 공연장 수만이 유의했다. 이는 서울 시민의 순수예술 공연관람 여부가 지역적 조건보다 개인의 사회인구학적 특성에 의해 더 크게 설명됨을 보여준다. 이 연구는 특정 관람층에 한정하지 않고 서울시민 전체 통계자료를 활용해 공연예술 관람을 사회적 조건의 차원에서 분석하고, 문화향유 중에서도 순수예술 공연관람에 초점을 맞추어 검토했으며, 자치구 단위의 지역 수준 요인을 함께 고려했다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 향후에는 관람 빈도, 지출 수준, 장르별 경험 등을 포함한 후속 분석이 필요하다.
