This study explores how Chinese doctoral students in the Arts Management program at C University in South Korea—whether currently enrolled, having completed coursework, or having graduated—experience their doctoral learning, and how these experiences shape the persistence and reconstruction of their career plans related to arts management. Eighteen participants were selected through purposive sampling, and qualitative analysis was conducted using the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) as an analytical framework. The findings reveal that participants' doctoral learning experiences extended beyond mere academic adaptation, unfolding instead as a complex process in which pre-admission expectations of earning a doctoral degree gradually gave way to a reconceptualization of the arts management field, an awareness of practical constraints, and the reconstruction of career plans. Coursework, dissertation writing, and engagement with the arts field prompted participants to develop a renewed understanding of the interdisciplinary nature of arts management and to explore ways of converting their prior academic and professional experiences into research topics and career resources. At the same time, social perceptions in China regarding Korean doctoral degrees, internal and external pressures associated with academic progress, and the realities of the employment market led participants to continually reassess the value and feasibility of their original career goals. Taken together, participants' career plans did not represent a straightforward extension of pre-admission goals; rather, they emerged as outcomes that were gradually adjusted and shaped by external reference points amid an evolving process of judging the field's value and reassessing its feasibility. This study interprets this ongoing process—whereby existing career goals are reevaluated and reoriented around newly perceived possibilities over the course of doctoral study—as a process of career plan reconstruction.

본 연구는 한국 C대학 예술경영 전공 박사과정에 재학 중이거나 이를 수료 및 졸업한 중국 유학생을 대상으로, 박사과정 학습경험이 어떠한 양상으로 나타나며 이러한 경험 속에서 예술경영 관련 진로계획이 어떻게 지속되고 조정되는지를 탐색하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 목적표집을 통해 총 18명의 연구 참여자를 선정하였으며, 계획된 행동 이론(Theory of Planned Behavior, TPB)을 분석틀로 활용하여 면담과 질적 분석을 수행하였다. 분석 결과, 연구 참여자들의 박사과정 학습경험은 단순한 학업 적응에 머무르지 않고, 입학 전 박사학위 취득에 대한 기대가 예술경영 전공에 대한 재이해, 현실적 제약에 대한 인식, 진로계획의 재구성으로 이어지는 복합적인 과정으로 나타났다. 수업 이수, 논문 작성 및 예술 현장 경험은 연구 참여자들이 예술경영의 학제적 특성을 새롭게 이해하고, 기존의 전공 및 직업 경험을 연구 주제와 진로 자원으로 전환할 가능성을 모색하도록 하였다. 반면 한국 박사학위에 대한 중국 내 사회적 평가, 학업 진행에 대한 내외부적 압력, 고용시장의 현실은 이들로 하여금 기존 진로 목표의 가치와 실현 가능성을 지속적으로 재평가하게 하였다. 종합하면, 연구 참여자들의 진로 계획은 입학 전 설정한 목표가 그대로 연장된 결과라기보다, 전공의 가치에 대한 판단과 실현 가능성에 대한 평가가 변화하는 과정에서 외부적 준거의 영향을 받으며 점차 조정 및 형성된 결과라 할 수 있다. 본 연구는 이처럼 박사과정 학습경험 속에서 기존의 진로 목표가 재평가되고 새로운 가능성을 중심으로 조정되는 과정을 진로계획의 재구성으로 해석하였다.
