Francois Petrus Viljoen (b. 1960, Th.D.[1985], Ph.D.[2016]), a retired Professor of New Testament at the University of Northwest (Potchebstrum) in South Africa, devoted himself to the study of the Gospel of Matthew from 1998 to 2005. While the Gospel of Matthew has generally been read as the ‘Gospel of the King’ as can be seen in Viljoen’s work, Reformed interpretations of the Gospel continue to be developed. This article introduces and evaluates the papers on the Gospel of Matthew published by Viljoen in the University of Northwest’s journal In die Skriflig and other South African academic journals. The order of this article is as follows: (1) Introduces Viljoen’s understanding of the introduction to the Gospel of Matthew. (2) Examine Viljoen’s interpretation of the texts in the Gospel of Matthew by dividing them into eight themes (descriptions of Jesus in Matthew, infant narratives, the Sermon on the Mount, healing ministry, healing, love and justice, Jesus and Jewish religious leaders, and the conclusion of Matthew). (3) Analyze the characteristics of Viljoen’s interpretation. (4) Explore ways to apply Viljoen’s interpretive insights for sermon.

남아공 노쓰-웨스트대학교(포쳅스트룸) 신약학 은퇴 교수 프란소와 펄윤(Francois Petrus Viljoen, b. 1960, Th.D.[1985], Ph.D.[2016])은 1998년부터 2005년까지 마태복음 연구에 천착했다. 일반적으로 마태복음은 ‘왕의 복음’으로 읽혀왔는데, 펄윤에게서 볼 수 있듯이 마태복음에 대한 개혁파 해석은 계속 발전하고 있다. 이 글은 펄윤이 노쓰-웨스트대학교 학술지 In die Skriflig를 비롯하여 남아공의 다른 학술지들에 게재한 마태복음 관련 논문을 소개하고 평가한다. 이 글의 순서는 다음과 같다.
