This study examines the impact of generative artificial intelligence (AI) on preaching in the Korean church from the perspective of the preaching ecosystem, rather than focusing on individual preachers or AIgenerated sermons. Its purpose is to analyze how generative AI reshapes the structures and relationships within this ecosystem and to propose a practical-theological response. To this end, the theological nature of preaching is first reconstructed as a normative framework for evaluating AI-generated sermons: Karl Barth’s understanding of preaching as the event of the Word, Rudolf Bohren’s pneumatological understanding of preaching together with Phillips Brooks’s concept of personal mediation, and James Cox’s and Thomas G. Long’s understanding of preaching as communal witness. An analysis of the Korean preaching ecosystem reveals structural vulnerabilities arising from the interaction of sermon overload centered on a single senior pastor, the institutionalization of sermon plagiarism, and the commodification of sermon consumption. Generative AI enters this vulnerable ecosystem and functions as a new actor that reconfigures its existing structures. A case study of an AI-generated sermon on Luke 15:11-32 demonstrates that, although the sermon achieves a certain level of coherence in biblical interpretation and logical organization, it exhibits fundamental limitations in all three theological dimensions: the eventcharacter of the Word, personal mediation, and communal witness. These findings indicate that the limitation of AI preaching lies not in its capacity for information processing but in its inability to replace the preacher’s personal subjectivity formed through the work of the Holy Spirit. Accordingly, this study proposes the principle of Subordinate Assistance, which understands generative AI as a supportive tool that remains strictly subordinate to the preacher’s personal and theological responsibility. On this basis, it develops practical-theological responses by addressing the epistemological limitations of AI and by presenting institutional and spiritual tasks for restoring the preaching ecosystem. The study concludes that the relationship between generative AI and preaching should be understood not as a matter of technological adoption but as one of the structural reconfiguration of the preaching ecosystem, and that the central challenge of preaching in the age of AI extends beyond preaching ethics to the justice of the preaching ecosystem and the shared responsibility of the faith community.

본 연구는 생성형 인공지능이 한국교회 설교에 미치는 영향을 설교자 개인이나 AI 생성 설교문이 아니라 설교 생태계(preaching ecosystem)의 관점에서 분석하고, 이에 대한 실천신학적 응답을 제시하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 먼저 설교의 신학적 본질을 칼 바르트의 말씀 사건성, 루돌프 보렌과 필립스 브룩스의 성령론적·인격적 매개성, 제임스 콕스와 토마스 롱의 공동체적 증언 이해를 중심으로 재구성하여 AI 시대 설교 평가의 규범적 기준을 마련하였다. 이어 한국교회 설교 생태계를 분석한 결과, 1인 담임목사 중심의 설교 노동 과부하, 설교 표절의 제도화, 상품화된 설교 소비 문화가 상호작용하는 구조적 취약성을 확인하였으며, 생성형 AI는 이러한 생태계에 진입하여 기존 구조를 재편하는 새로운 행위자로 작동하고 있음을 밝혔다. 또한 눅 15:11-32절을 본문으로 생성한 AI 설교를 사례 분석한 결과, 본문 해석과 논리적 구성에서는 일정한 완성도를 보였으나, 말씀의 사건성과 인격적 매개성, 공동체적 증언성이라는 세 차원 모두에서 근본적 한계를 드러냈다. 이는 AI 설교의 한계가 정보 처리 능력이 아니라 성령의 역사 안에서 형성되는 설교자의 인격적 주체성을 대신할 수 없다는 데 있다. 이에 본 연구는 생성형 AI를 설교자의 인격적·신학적 책임에 철저히 종속되는 보조 도구로 이해하는 종속적 보조(Subordinate Assistance)의 원리를 제안하고, AI의 인식론적 한계와 설교 생태계 회복을 위한 제도적·영성적 과제를 구체화하였다. 이를 통해 본 연구는 생성형 AI와 설교의 관계를 기술 수용의 문제가 아니라 설교 생태계의 구조적 재구성의 문제로 이해하고, AI 시대 설교의 과제가 설교 윤리를 넘어 설교 생태계의 정의와 공동체적 책임의 문제임을 제시한다.
