This study attempts an academic dialogue between Haddon Robinson’s theory of expository preaching and Jang Jong-hyun’s Reformed Life Theology as an alternative to overcome the intellectual speculation and technicism facing modern homiletics. Today, the Korean church pulpit faces a crisis where, despite the development of sophisticated analytical techniques, the vitalizing work of the Holy Spirit to revive spiritual life has significantly weakened. Accordingly, this research highlights the centrality of the Holy Spirit inherent in Robinson’s definition of expository preaching and specifically presents three preacher images of Reformed Life Theology. First, the preacher as a ‘Spiritual Leader’ proclaiming the Gospel of Life of Jesus Christ. This views preaching as a spiritual ministry where the Holy Spirit first applies truth to the preacher’s personality rather than mere technique, emphasizing that the preacher must first become a transformed messenger. Second, the preacher as a ‘Kneeling Prayer’ practicing the Theology of the Heart and the Theology of Kneeling. This involves learning to listen to God before speaking for God and maintaining a posture of absolute dependence by strictly seeking the illumination of the Holy Spirit. Third, the preacher as an ‘Executor of the Spiritual Life Movement’ who boldly proclaims the power of the Holy Spirit first experienced through sermon preparation. The preacher must become a channel of life, empowered by the Spirit who gives life (John 6:63), to infuse actual life into the souls of the audience and bring about transformation. This study expresses the conviction that Haddon Robinson’s expository preaching─which balances diligent ‘study’ (historical, grammatical, literary, and contextual) to grasp the ‘big idea’ with the Spirit’s work of ‘application’ to transform the messenger first and subsequently the audience─will revitalize today’s lifeless pulpits when its insights resonate with Jang Jong-hyun’s Reformed Life Theology, which emphasizes proclaiming the Gospel of Life solely through prayer and the help of the Holy Spirit.

본 연구는 현대 설교학이 직면한 지적 사변화와 기술주의적 경향을 극복하기 위한 대안으로, 해돈 로빈슨(Haddon Robinson)의 강해설교론과 장종현의 개혁주의생명신학 사이의 대화를 시도한다. 오늘날 한국교회 강단은 정교한 분석 기술은 발달했으나, 정작 영적 생명을 살리는 성령의 역사는 약화되고 있는 것이 아니냐는 위기의식을 느끼고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 로빈슨의 강해설교 정의에 담긴 성령의 중심성을 부각하며, 개혁주의생명신학의 세 가지 설교자상(象)을 구체적으로 피력한다. 첫째, 예수 생명의 복음을 선포하는‘영적 지도자’로서의 설교자이다. 이는 설교를 단순한 기술이 아닌 성령이 설교자의 인격에 먼저 적용하시는 영적 사역으로 이해하며, 설교자가 먼저 변화된 메신저가 되어야함을 강조한다. 둘째, 가슴의 신학과 무릎의 신학을 실천하는‘무릎 꿇은 기도자’로서의 설교자이다. 이는 하나님을 위해 말하기(speaking for God) 전에 먼저 하나님께 듣는(listening to God) 법을 배우며, 철저히 성령의 조명을 구하는 절대 의존의 자세를 견지하는 것이다. 셋째, 말씀 준비를 통해 먼저 누렸던 성령의 능력을 담대히 선포하는‘영적생명운동의 실행자’로서의 설교자이다. 설교자는 살리는 영(요 6:63)이신 성령의 능력을 입어 청중의 영혼에 실제적인 생명을 불어넣고 변화를 일으키는 생명의 통로가 되어야 한다. 본 연구는 본문의 중심사상(big idea) 파악을 위해 역사적, 문법적, 문학적(문예적), 문맥적 방식의 성실한 본문 연구(study)와, 말씀을 설교자에게 먼저 적용하여 메신저(설교자)를 변화시키고 그 변화된 메신저를 통하여 청중을 변화시키시는 성령의 적용하심application)의 사역을 균형 있게 강조한 해돈 로빈슨의 강해설교론이, 기도와 성령의 도우심으로 오직 예수 그리스도의 생명의 복음 선포를 강조하는 장종현의 개혁주의생명신학에 마주쳐 울릴 때 들려오는 통찰이 오늘날 활기를 잃어가는 설교 강단을 다시 불붙게 할 것이라는 확신을 피력하였다.
