This paper aims to compare and analyze the homiletical theories of Sidney Greidanus and Bryan Chapell in order to explore the direction that contemporary Reformed preaching should pursue. Both scholars stand within the soil of Reformed theology, emphasizing the authority of the biblical text and orienting their preaching toward a Christ-centered proclamation. Nevertheless, they exhibit meaningful differences in their methodological presuppositions and practical emphases. Greidanus underscores a hermeneutical method that discloses Christ within the redemptive-historical progression running through the entire Scripture, while warning against the dangers of moralistic, allegorical, and exemplaristic preaching. He systematizes seven legitimate ways to preach Christ from the Old Testament — redemptive-historical progression, promise and fulfillment, typology, analogy, longitudinal themes, New Testament references and allusions, and contrast — providing preachers with rigorous exegetical tools grounded in the organic unity of the canon. Chapell, by contrast, proposes a preaching structure that connects the grace of Christ to the lives of the congregation through a practical framework called the Fallen Condition Focus (FCF). Rooted in Reformed anthropology and covenant-of-grace theology, the FCF identifies the shared human brokenness that both the biblical text and the contemporary audience address, ensuring that every sermon leads the congregation to the redemptive provision found in Christ. Chapell further emphasizes the importance of grace-covenant motivation — calling believers to respond not from the compulsion of law but from the gratitude of those already embraced by the gospel. This study systematically examines the theological backgrounds, methodological characteristics, mutual critiques, and applicability to Korean church preaching of both scholars, thereby proposing an integrative direction for contemporary Reformed preachers. The two methodologies are found to be not fundamentally opposed but complementarily related: Greidanus supplies the hermeneutical rigor for discovering the redemptive-historical meaning of the text, while Chapell provides the practical structure for connecting that meaning evangelically to the lives of the congregation. It is argued that the integration of these two emphases — faithful exegesis of the text's redemptive-historical location and the gospel's concrete address to the fallen condition of the hearers — constitutes the central task of contemporary Reformed preaching. Particular attention is given to the implications of this integrative model for Korean church preaching, where the legacy of the 1907 Pyongyang Revival continues to call for proclamation that is both theologically rigorous and pastorally vital.

본 논문은 현대 개혁주의 설교의 방향성을 모색함에 있어서, 시드니 그레이다누스(Sidney Greidanus)와 브라이언 채플(Bryan Chapell)의 설교론을 비교·분석하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 두학자는 모두 개혁주의 신학의 토양 위에서 성경 본문의 권위를 강조하고 그리스도 중심적 설교를 지향하지만, 그 방법론적 전제와 실천적 강조점에 있어서 의미 있는 차이를 보인다. 그레이다누스는 성경 전체를 관통하는 구속사적 흐름(redemptive-historical progression) 속에서 그리스도를 드러내는 해석학적 방법론을 강조하며, 도덕주의적·알레고리적·모범론적 (exemplaristic) 설교의 위험을 경고한다. 반면 채플은 타락 상황 초점(FCF: Fallen Condition Focus)이라는 실제적 틀을 통해 그리스도의 은혜를 청중의 삶에 연결하는 설교 구조를 제시한다. 본 논문은 두 학자의 신학적 배경, 방법론적 특징, 상호 비판, 그리고 한국 교회 설교에의 적용 가능성을 체계적으로 검토함으로써, 오늘날 개혁주의 설교자들이 나아가야 할 통합적 방향을 제시하고자 한다. 두 방법론은 대립적이기보다 상호 보완적이며, 본문의 구속사적 의미 발견(그레이다누스)과 그 의미의 복음적 적용(채플)을 통합하는 것이 현대 개혁주의 설교의 핵심 과제임을 논증할 것이다.
