This study aims to propose the design principles and advancement strategies of the “Joseon-era Jeju Studies Database” as a digital infrastructure for comprehensively compiling Joseon-period documents related to Jeju. To this end, the study reviews the achievements and limitations of classical-text database projects at home and abroad, conducts a comprehensive survey of dispersed Jeju documents to organize them into five categories—geographical treatises, literary collections, drift-voyage records (pyohaerok), maps and calligraphy/paintings, and miscellaneous materials—and designs a semantic data construction plan that combines character standardization encompassing Jeju dialect orthography and variant Chinese characters, XML-based multilayered document structuring, and ontology-based semantic tagging. As a result, the study identifies more than 120 documents and presents the Comprehensive Catalog of Joseon-era Jeju Studies Documents along with a four-stage construction model. It further proposes intelligent analytical services—including social network analysis (SNA) of historical figures, a GIS-based electronic cultural map, and AI-powered character recognition and machine translation—as well as strategies for an evolving platform grounded in wiki-based user participation and open APIs. This design is expected to convert fragmented Jeju Studies materials into machine-readable knowledge resources—thereby expanding micro-level textual verification into macro-level analysis—and to serve as a foundation for circulating scholarly outcomes back into educational, cultural, and tourism content.

본 연구는 조선시대 제주 관련 문헌자료를 집대성하기 위한 디지털 인프라로서 ｢조선시대 제주학 DB｣의 설계 원리와 고도화 전략을 제안하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 국내외 고전 DB 구축 사례의 성과와 한계를 검토하고, 산재해 있는 제주 문헌을 전수 조사하여 지리서·시문집·표해록·지도서화·기타 자료의 5대 범주로 체계화하였으며, 제주어 표기와 이체자를 포괄하는 문자 표준화, XML 기반의 다층적 문서 구조화, 온톨로지 기반 의미 태깅을 결합한 시맨틱 데이터 구축 방안을 설계하였다. 다음으로 총 120여 종의 문헌을 확인하여 <조선시대 제주학 문헌자료 총목록> 및 4단계 구축 모델을 제시하였다. 아울러 인물 관계망 분석(SNA)·GIS 기반 전자문화지도·AI문자 인식 및 기계 번역 등 지능형 분석 서비스와 위키 방식 사용자 참여·개방형 API에 기반한 진화형 플랫폼 전략을 도출하였다. 이러한 설계는 파편화된 제주학 자료를 AI가 해석할 수 있는 지식 자원으로 전환하여 미시적 고증을 거시적 분석으로 확장하고, 학술성과를 교육·문화·관광 콘텐츠로 환류시키는 토대가 될 것이다.
