This study aimed to suggest new directions for the development of hair design as a form of formative art by applying the characteristics of Jackson Pollock’s action painting techniques, particularly the dripping technique and all-over painting, to hairstyling. In terms of research methodology, the study was based on qualitative inquiry through a review of the literature, preliminary data collection, and the process of creating artistic works. By emphasizing the free flow of lines and the overlapping effects of diverse colors found in action painting, the study sought to reinterpret these expressive qualities in upstyles and cut designs through three-dimensional structures and textural expression, thereby creating a sense of dynamic movement and spatial depth. The findings demonstrated that when the dripping and all-over painting techniques were applied to hairstyling, organically interconnected lines and points could be effectively visualized to express both visual rhythm and sensory energy simultaneously. In addition, the integration of movement, chance elements, and spontaneous rhythm shared by both hair design and action painting suggests the potential for creative integration that transcends the conventional boundaries of pictorial art. In this respect, the study is meaningful in presenting a new approach that combines fine art and beauty art as a unified creative medium. It is expected that further research will continue to support the growth and creative development of the beauty field.
