A Study on Beauty Education Needs According to Participation Experience and Intention among Middle-Aged Women
This study aimed to examine differences in beauty education needs according to participation experience and intention among middle-aged women and to suggest directions for designing beauty education programs tailored to this population. The participants were 207 women in their 50s and 60s residing in G City, and data were collected through an online questionnaire survey. The collected data were analyzed using frequency analysis, cross-tabulation, and independent sample t-tests with SPSS Statistics 30.0. The results indicated that the rate of prior participation in beauty education was relatively low, whereas the intention to participate in future programs was comparatively high, suggesting the presence of substantial latent demand among middle-aged women. In terms of instructional methods, participants showed a strong preference for classes combining theory and practice, as well as on-site participatory formats. Regarding program duration, short-term and intensive courses were perceived as most appropriate. Online beauty education was generally viewed positively; however, it was recognized mainly as a supplementary approach rather than a replacement for face-to-face instruction. With respect to educational content, skin care was the most preferred field, and participants with prior educational experience demonstrated significantly higher preferences for foundational and self-care-oriented skin care subjects. Additionally, practice-based subjects related to hair, scalp care, and makeup also received high preference ratings. These findings suggest that beauty education programs for middle-aged women should prioritize experiential learning, short-term course structures, and skin care–centered curricula while integrating hair and makeup components through a blended instructional approach.
