The purpose of this study was to develop an ecological education program based on Dumbeong, a traditional agricultural irrigation facility and regional eco cultural resource, grounded in cultural landscape attributes and Capra’s (1996) ecosystem principles. The study site focused on the Dumbeong systems distributed across the coastal plains of Goseong-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do, South Korea, which represent a distinctive eco-cultural landscape designated as both a National Agricultural Heritage and a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System (GIAHS). This study integratively connected the core attributes of cultural landscapes (historicity, aesthetics, connectivity, identity, and sustainability) with Capra’s (1996) ecological principles (networks, cycles, flows, development, diversity, interdependence, dynamic balance, and recurring systems). The program comprises five activities. First, “Creating an Eco-cultural Chronicle of Dumbeong” enables learners to explore the history and developmental processes of Dumbeong through oral histories, old maps, and photographs. Second, “Ecological Aesthetic Insight through Sensory Expansion” encourages participants to experience the Dumbeong landscape sensorially and expand their aesthetic appreciation through ecological drawing and poetry writing. Third, “Ecology of Relationships” helps learners understand the concepts of networks and interdependence by visualizing the interactions among water, living organisms, agriculture, and humans as relational systems. Fourth, “Sustainable Eco-cultural Practice” allows participants to experience the principles of cycles and flows through mini-Dumbeong creation and ecological observations. Fifth, “Restoration of Eco-cultural Identity” reinterprets disappearing Dumbeongs as eco-cultural places, fostering an awareness of regional identity and ecological values.

본 연구는 문화경관 속성과 Capra (1996)의 생태계 원리를 바탕으로, 전통 농업 수리시설이자 지역 생태문화자원인 둠벙을 기반한 생태교육 프로그램 개발을 목적으로 하였다. 연구 대상지는 경상남도 고성군 해안 평야 지대에 분포한 둠벙으로, 국가농업문화유산 및 세계관개유산으로 지정된 지역의 대표적 생태문화경관이다. 연구에서는 문화경관의 속성인 역사성, 심미성, 연계성, 정체성, 지속성과 Capra (1996)의 생태계 원리인 네트워크, 순환, 흐름, 발달, 다양성, 상호의존, 동적인 균형, 반복되는 시스템을 통합적으로 연계하였다. 프로그램은 총 다섯 가지 활동으로 구성되었다. 첫째, ‘둠벙 생태문화 연대기 만들기’는 구술 자료와 옛 지도, 사진 등을 활용하여 둠벙의 역사와 발달 과정을 탐구하도록 하였다. 둘째, ‘감각의 확장을 통한 생태심미 통찰’은 둠벙 경관을 감각적으로 체험하고 생태 드로잉과 시 쓰기 활동으로 심미적 경험을 확장하였다. 셋째, ‘관계의 생태학’은 물, 생물, 농업, 인간의 상호작용을 관계망으로 시각화하여 네트워크와 상호의존 개념을 이해하도록 구성하였다. 넷째, ‘지속가능한 생태문화 실천’은 미니 둠벙 조성과 생태 관찰 활동을 통해 순환과 흐름의 원리를 체험하도록 하였다. 다섯째, ‘생태문화적 정체성 복원’은 사라져가는 둠벙을 생태문화적 장소로 재해석하며 지역 정체성과 생태적 가치를 인식하도록 하였다.
