Park Jae-hee, author of Understanding Taepyeongmu and Han Seong-jun (Vols. I & II), states that the book's purpose is to establish a systematic scholarly framework for Taepyeongmu, choreographed by Han Seong-jun and transmitted through the teaching of Han Yeong-suk, and to serve as a modest foundation for the dance's accurate understanding and future development. Drawing on her lifelong discipleship under Han Yeong-suk—a relationship first forged through Taepyeongmu—the author traces the lineage of this National Intangible Heritage by unraveling, thread by thread, the transmission from master to student. The book examines, diachronically from the Japanese colonial period to the present, the background of Han Seong-jun's original choreography and its musical structure rooted in traditional Korean dance aesthetics, the processes by which it was preserved as Joseon dance, its transmission as Han Yeong-suk-style Taepyeongmu and completion as a solo form, and its eventual consolidation as Park Jae-hee-style Taepyeongmu. The work also identifies several productive research agendas: reassessing existing scholarly positions on Han Seong-jun's dance activities; comparative analysis of jangdan (rhythmic structure) across the transmission lineage; the limits of selective rhythmic adaptation in dance practice; and recovering the varied transmission contexts and choreographic intentions behind Han Yeong-suk's teaching across different disciples and periods.
