Dance as an art form is fundamentally inseparable from the place in which it is performed. Therefore, this study aims to explore the generation of artistic meaning through the correlation between dance and space where it is realized. Two works serve as case studies: Miniature Space Theater, which reconfigured traditional theater space to experiment with audience performativity, and Trailer, an urban site-specific performance; both are pertinent cases for examining innovation in dance space and meaning production. Employing semiotic analysis based on binary oppositions, actantial models, and significance processes, the study conducts an in-depth examination of how each work utilizes place and generates meaning. The analysis derives three dimensions of meaning from dance performed in diverse places: non- representational meaning, bodily meaning, and event meaning. It is hoped that the generative artistic meanings identified through this research will contribute to fundamental self-reflection and redefinition in the art of dance.

춤 예술은 근본적으로 춤 행위를 펼치는 장소와 불가분의 관계이다. 이에 본 연구는 춤이 구현되는 장소와 춤의 상관관계를 통해 예술적 의미생성을 도출하는 것을 연구목적으로 한다. 연구 대상으로 전통적인 극장 공간을 재편해 관객 수행성을 실험한 『미니어처 공간극장』, 도시 장소 특정적 공연 『Trailer』는 춤 행위 장소 혁신과 의미생성 관점에서 연구 대상으로서 타당성이 있다. 연구 방법으로 기호학적 분석은 이항대립과 행위자 모델 그리고 의미 산출을 통해 두 작품이 내재한 장소 사용 심층 분석과 의미 생성을 연구한다. 이를 통해 다양한 장소에서 이뤄지는 춤 기호분석 결과로써 비 재현 의미, 신체 의미, 사건 의미를 도출한다. 나아가, 연구 결과로 도출된 예술적생성 의미는 춤 예술의 근본적인 자기 성찰과 재정립 의미로서 제언 되기를 바란다.
