This study examines how the expressive forms of conceptual art are reconfigured in contemporary fashion and how the meaning of fashion is constructed through the processes of production, distribution, consumption, and their social contexts by analyzing the fashion projects of MSCHF. Based on Tony Godfrey's four expressive forms of conceptual art—readymade, documentation, language, and intervention—this study reconstructs them for fashion as the conceptualization of materiality, the visualization of process and action, the construction of value through language, and the critique of the fashion system. A case study method was adopted, and eighteen MSCHF fashion projects with strong conceptual and institutional-critical characteristics were selected for analysis. The findings show that MSCHF expands the meaning of fashion beyond materiality through the conceptualization of materiality, in which symbolic value and social consensus outweigh functional properties. The visualization of process and action demonstrates that fashion acquires meaning through production, wearing practices, appropriation, recontextualization, and media participation rather than through completed forms alone. The construction of value through language reveals that place of origin, naming, and pricing function as key mechanisms for organizing the meaning of fashion. The critique of the fashion system exposes institutional conditions, including copyright regulations and scarcity-driven distribution systems, as integral components of the work itself. These conceptual strategies collectively demonstrate that the meaning of fashion is constructed through the interaction of production, distribution, consumption, and broader social contexts. This study proposes an analytical framework for understanding contemporary fashion as a conceptual practice by reconstructing the expressive forms of conceptual art within the context of fashion. It also provides a theoretical basis for interpreting fashion from the perspective of meaning and context rather than as a material object.
