This study explored the recovery and growth experiences of spouses of individuals with gambling disorder who participated in Gam-Anon Family Groups. Using Giorgi’s descriptive phenomenological method, in-depth interviews were conducted with eight spouses who had experience in participation and volunteer service. From the analysis, 153 meaning units were identified and organized into 41 themes, which were subsequently integrated into 13 revealed themes. Finally, four essential themes were derived: (1) a codependent life characterized by control and self-sacrifice, (2) a turning point toward recovery through illness recognition and self-differentiation, (3) identity transformation from a help-seeker to a helper, and (4) expansion from fear to hope within a communal life. The findings indicate that recovery from codependency is a transformative process involving cognitive reframing, boundary setting, and communal engagement.

본 연구는 단도박가족모임(Gam-Anon)에 참여한 도박중독자 배우자의 공동의존 회복과 성장 경험을 현상학적으로 탐색하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 모임 참여 및 봉사 경험이 있는 배우자 8명을 대상으로 심층 면담을 실시하고, Giorgi의 기술적 현상학 방법으로 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 153개의 의미단위가 도출되었고, 이를 통합하여 41개의 주제를 구성하였다. 이후 41개의 주제는 13개의 드러난 주제로 재구성되었으며, 최종적으로 4개의 본질적 주제가 도출되었다. 도출된 본질적 주제는 ‘통제와 희생 속에서 자신을 잃은 공동의존의 삶’, ‘질병 인식과 자기 분리를 통한 회복의 전환’, ‘도움받는 자에서 돕는 자로의 정체성 전환’, ‘두려움에서 희망으로 확장되는 공동체적 삶’이다. 연구 결과는 도박중독자 배우자의 공동의존 회복이 단순한 증상 완화가 아니라 인식 전환과 자기 경계 확립을 거쳐 공동체적 삶으로 확장되는 성장의 과정임을 보여준다. 이는 배우자 회복의 중요성과 자조모임 및 봉사 경험의 회복 유지 기능을 시사한다.
