This study was conducted to explore elementary school peer counselors’ experiences with school violence prevention activities and the meanings they ascribed to those experiences. To achieve this purpose, in-depth interviews were conducted with students who had experience participating in elementary school peer counseling activities. The collected data were analyzed using the Consensual Qualitative Research (CQR) method. The findings yielded four domains, 16 categories, and 55 core concepts. First, in the domain of peer counselors’perceptions of school violence, participants perceived school violence as relational and emotional conflicts occurring in everyday peer relationships, including verbal violence, relational exclusion, and cyberbullying. Second, in the domain of peer counselors’ role experiences and difficulties, participants reported experiencing a sense of responsibility to help peers while simultaneously feeling fear, burden, and limitations in their competencies during actual intervention processes. Third, in the domain of experiences and limitations of existing school violence prevention education, participants perceived conventional prevention education, which was primarily lecture-based and information-delivery-oriented, as having limitations in promoting actual behavioral change. Fourth, in the domain of growth experiences and meanings derived from school violence prevention activities, participatory activities such as role-play were perceived as positive experiences that enhanced understanding of school violence situations, empathy, practical coping competencies, and self-confidence. Based on these findings, this study discussed the meanings of elementary school peer counselors’ experiences in school violence prevention activities and presented implications and suggestions for the implementation and application of peer-centered, participatory approaches to school violence prevention.

본 연구는 초등학교 또래상담자의 학교폭력 예방 활동 경험과 그 의미를 탐색하기 위하여 수행되었다. 이를 위해 초등학교 또래상담 활동 경험이 있는 학생들을 대상으로 심층면담을 실시하였으며, 수집된 자료는 합의적 질적연구(Consensual Qualitative Research: CQR) 방법을 활용하여 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 총 4개 영역, 16개 범주, 55개의 핵심개념이 도출되었다. 첫째, 학교폭력에 대한 또래상담자의 인식 영역에서는 학교폭력을 언어폭력, 관계적 배제, 사이버폭력 등 일상적인 또래관계 속에서 발생하는 관계적․정서적 갈등으로 인식하는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 또래상담자의 역할 경험과 어려움 영역에서는 친구를 돕고자 하는 책임감을 느끼는 동시에 실제 개입 과정에서 두려움과 부담, 역량의 한계를 경험하는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 기존 학교폭력 예방 교육에 대한 경험과 한계 영역에서는 예방 교육이 강의식․전달식 중심으로 운영되어 실제 행동 변화로 이어지는 데 한계가 있는 것으로 인식되었다. 넷째, 학교폭력 예방 활동을 통한 성장 경험과 의미 영역에서는 역할극과 같은 참여형 활동이 학교폭력 상황에 대한 이해와 공감 능력을 높이고 실제적인 대처 역량과 자신감을 향상시키는 데 긍정적인 경험으로 인식되었다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 초등학교 또래상담자의 학교폭력 예방 활동 경험의 의미를 논의하였으며, 또래 중심․참여형 학교폭력 예방 활동의 운영과 적용을 위한 시사점과 제언을 제시하였다.
