AI-Supported Question Generation as Sociocognitive Scaffolding : Effects on Speaking Performance, Critical Thinking Disposition, and Questioning Anxiety in Korean EFL University Classrooms
This quasi-experimental mixed-methods study examined an AI-mediated structured inquiry model in a participation-constrained Korean EFL university context. A 10-week intact-class intervention (N = 40), integrating question-generation training, iterative prompt refinement, AI-mediated rehearsal, and structured oral tasks, produced significant gains in CEFR-aligned speaking proficiency (η²p = .336), improvements in critical thinking disposition, and reductions in anxiety and perceived hierarchical barriers. Findings are preliminary and context-specific, suggesting that algorithmically responsive rehearsal embedded within structured inquiry may redistribute regulatory processes in the Zone of Proximal Development and expand functional participation space rather than functioning as an autonomous causal agent, highlighting the importance of instructional configuration over technological determinism. Future large-scale cluster-randomized studies are needed to establish the generalizability and causal stability of these findings across diverse EFL contexts.

Ever since next generation convergence technology became one of the most important industries in the nation, computing professionals have encountered a growing number of challenges. Along with scholars and colleagues in related fields, they have gathered in avariety of forums and meetings over the last few decades to share their knowledge, experiences and the outcome of their research. These exchanges have led to the founding of the International Next-generation Convergence technology (INCA) on December 1, 2015. INCA was registered as an incorporated association under the Ministry of Information and Communications. The main purpose of the organization is to improve our society by achieving the highest capability possible in next generation convergence technology.
