This study aims to examine the mediating effect of social support on the relationship between career readiness and career indecision and career decision-making difficulties among freshman university students. To this end, structural equation modeling (SEM) and bootstrapping methods were employed using SPSS 22.0 and AMOS 23.0. Participants consisted of 215 freshman students enrolled at a university located in Seoul, South Korea. The main findings were as follows: First, statistically significant correlations were found among all study variables with respect to career decision-making difficulties. Second, social support was found to fully mediate the relationship between career readiness and both career indecision and career decision-making difficulties. These findings confirm that utilizing social resources is more critical than individual factors in addressing career-related challenges. The results of this study may contribute to the development of strategies for implementing open-major admission systems at Korean universities.

본 연구는 대학 신입생의 진로준비도가 진로미결정 및 진로결정어려움에 미치는 영향에서 사회적 지지의 매개효과를 알아보는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 SPSS 22.0과 AMOS 23.0 프로그램을 활용하여 구조방정식과 부트스트랩 방법으로 매개효과를 알아보았다. 연구 참여자는 대한민국 서울 소재 대학에 재학 중인 신입생 215명이었다. 주요 연구 결과는 첫째, 진로결정 어려움은 모든 연구변인들 간의 통계적으로 유의미한 상관관계가 나타났다. 사회적 지지는 진로준비도와 진로미결정 및 진로결정어려움 간의 관계를 완전 매개하는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 진로 관련 문제에서 개인적 측면보다 사회적 자원을 활용하는 것이 더 중요함을 확인시켜준다. 본 연구 결과는 한국 대학의 자유전공 입학제도 시행을 위한 전략 개발에 도움이 될 수 있다.
