The purpose of this study is to analyze the situation in which the lips, which can be easily seen in everyday life, approach with an erotic feeling and the reason and method of the work through the Uncanny theory. In this paper, after studying the conceptual characteristics of Uncanny, which is a tool for interpretation, and the application cases of works, the causes of strengthening eroticism of the lips were classified and investigated. After that, the uncanny emotions of the lips in visual works were analyzed through cases. Uncanny is applied to situations and images that give 'unfamiliar fears' in various fields, and the keywords 'death' and 'sexual' appear in the process of theory development. This paper focused on the 'sexual' part, especially the uncanny felt in the lips, which is a part of the body. Among the exposed body parts, lips are particularly often used as a material for eroticism, and the causes of this were classified through the visual, cultural, and functional characteristics of the lips. Case writers Kim Sung-jin and Ronit Baranga are writers who produce works based on lips. Kim Sung-jin emphasizes and enlarges the image of the lips, and in the case of Ronit Baranga, through repetition and recombination, the uncanny emotions of the lips are created. Uncanny is mainly applied and analyzed only in specific painting trends. In this paper, a new perspective was presented by applying the Uncanny theory to the lip image and analyzing the reason.

본 연구는 일상에서 쉽게 볼 수 있는 입술이 에로틱한 느낌으로 다가오는 상황과 작품의 이유, 방식을 언캐니(Uncanny) 이론을 통해 분석하는데 목적을 두고 있다. 본고에서 해석의 툴이 되는 언캐니에 대한 개념적 특징과 작품 적용 사례를 연구한 뒤, 입술의 에로티시즘을 강화하는 원인에 대해 분석하였다. 이후 시각작품에서 나타나는 입술의 언캐니 감정에 대한 사례를 조사하였다. 언캐니는 다양한 분야에서‘낯익은 두려움’을 주는 상황이나 이미지에 적용하여 사용하는데, 이론 전개 과정에서‘죽음’과‘성적(Sexual)’키워드가 등장한다. 본고에서는‘성적’인 부분에 집중하여, 특히 신체의 일부인 입술에서 느끼는 언캐니에 대해 연구하였다. 노출된 신체 부위 중 입술은 유난히 에로티시즘의 소재로 자주 활용되는데, 이에 대한 원인을 입술이 가진 시각성, 문화성, 기능성을 통해 분류하였다. 사례작가인 김성진과 로니트 바랑가는 입술을 소재로 작품을 제작하는 작가이다. 김성진은 입술 이미지의 강조와 확대의 방식으로, 로니트 바랑가의 경우에는 반복, 재결합을 통해 입술의 언캐니를 끌어낸다. 언캐니는 시각 예술에서 주로 특정 회화 사조에서만 적용해 분석한 사례를 볼 수 있다. 본고에서는 언캐니 이론을 입술 이미지로 한정해 적용하고, 그 이유에 대해 분석함으로써 새로운 관점을 제시하였다.
