The purpose of our study was to clarify how learners perceive natural conversation videos recorded in the Natural Conversation Resource Bank (NCRB) as Japanese language instructional materials. The participants were nine Koreans studying Japanese at a university in Korea, each with a cumulative stay in Japan of less than one month. The participants viewed 12 natural conversation videos from the NCRB and completed a questionnaire on their perceptions of each video as an instructional resource. In our analysis, I focused on the kind of learning content that the learners perceived to obtain from each video and on the proficiency levels of Japanese language learners who were targeted by these videos. The results indicated that the learners did not perceive NCRB videos as materials of uniform difficulty. The videos were recognized as resources suitable for different level ranges. The participants most frequently identified learning content that included words or vocabulary, backchanneling (aizuchi) expressions, Japanese culture and customs, and situation–specific behavior and manners. I observed a consistent correlation between the perceptions of learnable content and the appropriate learner levels for instructional use.

본 연구는 NCRB (Natural Conversation Resource Bank)에 수록된 자연대화동영상이 일본어 학습교재로서 학습자에게 어떻게 인식되는지를 밝히는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 조사 대상은 한국의 대학에서 일본어를 전공하며 일본체류 기간이 1개월 미만인 한국인 일본어학습자 9명이다. 대상자에게 NCRB에 수록된 자연대화 동영상 12편을 시청하게 한 후, 각 영상을 일본어 학습교재로서 어떻게 받아들이는지에 관한 설문조사를 실시하였다. 분석에서는 각 영상에서 어떠한 학습내용을 얻을 수 있다고 인식되는지, 또한 어느 수준의 일본어학습자에게 적합하다고 인식되는지에 주목하였다. 그 결과, 학습자가 비교적 많이 인식한 학습내용은 단어 및 어휘, 맞장구표현, 일본의 문화와 습관, 상황에 맞는 행동 및 매너였다. 그리고 NCRB 동영상은 일률적인 난이도의 교재가 아니라 영상마다 서로 다른 레벨대의 교재로 인식하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 또한 교재로서 학습 가능한 내용에 대한 인식과 사용 시 적절한 학습자 레벨에 대한 인식 사이에는 다음과 같은 대응관계를 보였다. 예를 들면 학습가능한 내용으로 단어, 어휘, 맞장구 표현이 선택된 영상의 경우에는, N3 레벨이나 그 이하의 학습자에게 적합하다고 인식하고 있으며, 일본문화와 습관, 행동 및 매너가 선택된 영상에서는 N5에서 N1까지의 폭넓은 학습자층에 적합한 교재라는 인식을 가지고 있었다.
