This study examined the effects of reminiscence-based therapeutic music activities on emotional changes and social interaction in older adults with dementia living in nursing homes. Fifty residents aged 65 and above residing in K Nursing Home in City P were randomly assigned to an experimental group(n = 25) or a control group(n = 25). The experimental group participated in 15 sessions of reminiscence-based therapeutic music activities (50 minutes each), while the control group continued with routine institutional activities. Emotional changes were assessed using the Apparent Emotion Rating Instrument (AER), and social interaction was measured with the Assessment of Communication and Interaction Skills (ACIS). Pre- and post-tests were conducted for both groups. Results showed that the intervention significantly increased positive emotions, reduced negative emotions, and improved social interaction across all subdomains. These findings suggest that reminiscence-based therapeutic music activities are effective in stimulating emotional responses and enhancing social interaction, with the potential to alleviate the emotional and social isolation of nursing home residents.

본 연구는 회상 중심의 치료적 음악 활동이 요양시설에 거주하는 치매 노인의 정서 변화와 사회적 상호작용에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 실시하였다. 연구 대상은 P시의 K요양시설에 거주하는 65세 이상 치매 노인으로 실험집단 25명, 통제집단 25명으로 임의 배정하였다. 실험집단에는 50분씩 총 15회기의 회상 중심의 치료적 음악 활동을 실시하였고, 통제집단은 기관의 일과 활동을 수행하였다. 정서 변화는 정서측정도구(Apparent Emotion Rating Instrument), 사회적 상호작용은 의사소통 및 상호작용 기술평가 도구(The Assessment of Communication and Interaction Skills)를 사용하여 관찰･측정하였다. 회상 중심의 치료적 음악 활동 시행 전실험집단과 통제집단에 사전검사를 수행하였으며 음악치료 중재 후 동일한 방법으로 사후검사를 수행하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 회상 중심의 치료적 음악 활동은 치매 노인의 긍정적 정서를 유의하게 향상시키고 부정적 정서를 감소시키는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 회상 중심의 치료적 음악 활동이 요양시설 치매 노인의 사회적 상호작용 향상에 유의미한 영 향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구 결과는 회상 중심의 치료적 음악 활동이 치매 노인의 정서 반응과 사회적 상호작용을 자극하고 회복시키는 데 효과적임을 시사한다. 특히 요양설이라는 제한된 생활환경에서 치매 노인의 정서적･사회적 고립을 완화할 수 있음을 시사한다는 점에서 본 연구의 의의가 있다.
