The purpose of this study is to analyze the process by which the white porcelain moon jar, a traditional Korean plastic object, develops into a new formative language through formative transformation and conceptual expansion in modern art. The white porcelain moon jar, which has been established as a sculpture symbolizing the identity of Korean beauty since the Joseon Dynasty, has been used as a major medium for formative exploration that merges tradition and modernity since the 20th century. In modern two-dimensional art, the moon jar has gone beyond simple reproduction and has changed into an object of experimental expression that reflects the artistic sensibilities and philosophy of individual artists. Accordingly, we examined the aspects of plastic transformation and conceptual expansion from various angles based on literature research, work analysis, and artist interviews, and analyzed public perception through a survey. This approach is significant in that it goes beyond the limitations of existing individual artist-centered analyzes or approaches to historical and ceramic formative beauty, and comprehensively sheds light on the modern interpretation and use of white porcelain moon jars. Furthermore, the academic value of this study is placed on suggesting the possibility of modern development of traditional formative language and the direction of its aesthetic expansion, focusing on the formative transformation of the white porcelain moon jar that appears in modern two-dimensional art.

본 연구는 한국의 전통 조형 오브제인 백자 달항아리가 현대미술에서 조형적 변용과 개념적 확장을 통해 새로운 조형 언어로 발전하는 과정을 분석하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 조선시대부터 한국적 미의 정체성을 상징하는 조형물로 자리 잡은 백자 달항아리는 20세기 이후 전통과 현대가 융합되는 조형적 탐구의 주요 매개체로 활용되고 있다. 현대 평면미술에서 달항아리는 단순한 재현을 넘어, 작가 개개인의 예술적 감성과 철학을 반영하는 실험적 표현의 대상으로 변화하였다. 이에 따라 문헌 조사와 작품 분석, 작가 인터뷰를 중심으로 조형적 변형과 개념적 확장 양상을 다각도로 고찰하고, 설문조사를 병행하여 대중 인식을 함께 분석하였다. 이와 같은 접근은 기존의 개별 작가 중심 분석이나 역사적, 도자 조형미로의 접근의 한계를 넘어, 백자 달항아리의 현대적 해석과 활용 방식을 통합적으로 조명한다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 나아가 현대 평면미술 속에서 나타나는 백자 달항아리의 조형적 변용을 중심으로, 전통 조형 언어의 현대적 발전 가능성과 그 미학적 확장 방향을 제안하는 데 본 연구의 학문적 가치를 둔다.
