A Study on the Making Techniques of Yeonglong porcelain in Gyeongdeokjin

- Gyeongdeokjin Yeonglong porcelain has a history of more than 500 years in ancient China. Place rice grain-sized pieces regularly on top pottery. When the glaze is filled and fired, the glaze dissolves at a high temperature and flows down, blocking the hole, changing the permeable part into a translucent glassy film. These light green translucent membranes reflect and pass through light. It creates a visual effect of beautiful light and unique shadows on the surface of the object, which is called‘Yeonglongan(玲瓏眼)’or‘Mitong(米 Tong)’. This research investigates three main aspects. First, it explores the origins and historical development of ancient Yeongnong Ceramics. Second, it comprehensively analyzes the production process, decoration techniques, and the composition of Yeongnong glaze to understand the characteristics of each production stage, material selection, and technique application. Third, it examines the cultural value of Yeongnong Ceramics and how contemporary ceramic artists utilize and develop them, using examples of their work. Therefore, the study of the origins, historical evolution, and production techniques of Gyeongdeokjin Yeongnong Ceramics demonstrates the development of modern production processes. This represents a fusion of traditional aesthetics with modern technology, creating a balanced value and beauty between tradition and modernity. Additionally, through the reinterpretation of artists, using shadows, light, and the transformation of inlaid forms, the study explores new possibilities, showing that these ceramics transcend their traditional artistic status to maintain their value and meaning in modern society and culture. This contributes to the sustainable development of cultural heritage, the fusion of technology and culture, and the creation of new values and aesthetics, paving the way for unique expressions between tradition and modernity and enhancing the development and value of contemporary ceramic techniques.
