- This study examines how the artistic legitimacy of AI-generated art is constructed through the theoretical frameworks of Claire Bishop and Slavoj Žižek. By applying Bishop's critique of participatory aesthetics and Žižek's concepts of ideological fantasy, the Big Other, and the uncanny, the research analyzes AI-generated art as a cultural and institutional phenomenon rather than a purely technical innovation. The analysis shows that participatory structures in AI platforms tend to conceal their production conditions and limit user interaction to superficial engagement. It further demonstrates that the symbolic legitimacy of AI-generated art relies heavily on institutional validation and ideological fantasy rather than intrinsic artistic value. The uncanny effects of AI imagery are often absorbed into aesthetic spectacle instead of producing critical rupture. We argue that meaningful artistic legitimacy in AI art emerges not from technological novelty but from critical practices that expose its symbolic and ideological structures. These findings contribute to a critical re-evaluation of AI-generated art within contemporary aesthetic discourse.

- 본 연구는 클레어 비숍과 슬라보예 지젝의 이론적 틀을 적용하여 생성형 AI 예술의 예술적 정당성이 어떻게 구성되는지를 분석하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 연구 방법으로는 비숍의 참여 미학 비평과 지젝의 이념적 환상, 대타자, 언캐니 개념을 AI 생성 예술에 이론적으로 적용하였다. 분석 결과, AI 플랫폼의 참여 구조는 기술적·제도적 생산 조건을 은폐한 채 사용자에게 제한된 상호작용만을 제공함으로써 피상적 참여에 머무르는 경향을 보였다. 또한 AI 생성 예술의 상징적 정당성은 작품의 내재적 가치보다 제도적 승인과 이념적 환상에 크게 의존하고 있음을 확인하였다. 더 나아가 인간의 창의성을 모방하는 AI 이미지의 언캐니 효과는 비판적 파열을 형성하기보다 시각적 스펙터클로 소비되는 양상을 보였다. 이러한 분석을 통해 AI 생성 예술은 지배적인 문화적·경제적 구조 내에서 작동하고 있음을 밝혔다. 이에 따라 우리는 AI 예술의 의미 있는 예술적 정당성이 기술적 혁신이 아니라 상징적·이념적 구조에 대한 비판적 실천 속에서 형성될 수 있음을 제시한다. 이는 AI 예술을 둘러싼 동시대 미학 담론에 비판적 관점을 제공하며, 향후 관련 연구의 이론적 기반을 확장하는 데 기여한다.
