The horror films discussed in this paper, "The Tenants" (Yoon Eun-kyung, 2024) and "Noise" (Kim Soo-jin, 2025), can be considered a type of "haunted house" because they present an absurd space that transcends the boundaries of reality and drives the protagonists mad. The core setting is an apartment, and societal issues such as youth housing shortages, noise between floors, and reconstruction serve as major sources of conflict, embodying Korean characteristics. While "The Tenants" and "Noise" share similar subject matter with existing apartment films, their settings and characters are distinct. First, the apartment where the protagonists reside presents an unrealistic and surreal space. This space is not a place for daily life, but rather a non-place that prepares for death or drives people mad. While thrillers set primarily in apartments often end with the protagonist escaping or the case being resolved, the protagonists of "The Tenants" and "The Noise" remain trapped in the apartments, inducing fear and hallucinations. They either helplessly give up on life or choose to conform to the apartment's terrifying norms. In this sense, the apartment in these two works is non-place, themselves horrific metonymy. This characteristic is a unique aspect not found in previous apartment films.

본고에서 다룬 호러 영화 <세입자>(윤은경, 2024), <노이즈>(김수진, 2025)는 사실의 경계를 뛰어넘는 부조리한 공간이 존재하고 그 공간으로 인해 주인공이 미쳐간다는 점에서 일종의 '귀신 들린 집' 계열에 속한다고 할 수 있다. 핵심 공간은 아파트이며 청년 주거난, 층간 소음, 재건축 등 한국 사회의 문제가 주요 갈등 요인으로 작용하고 있다는 점에서 한국적 특징을 내포하고 있다. <세입자>, <노이즈>는 소재 면에서 기존 아파트-영화와 유사하지만 공간과 캐릭터에 차별성이 있다. 우선, 주인공이 거주하는 아파트에는 비현실적이고 초현실적인 공간이 존재하는데 그 공간은 일상을 영위하는 장소가 아니라 죽음을 예비하거나 미치게 만드는 비-장소이다. 아파트가 주된 공간인 스릴러의 결말은 주인공이 아파트를 탈출하거나 사건이 해결되는 데 비해 <세입자>, <노이즈>의 주인공들은 공포와 환각을 제공하는 아파트 공간을 떠나지 못 한 채 무기력하게 삶을 포기하거나 아파트의 공포 규범에 순응하는 선택을 한다. 그런 면에서 이 두 작품 속 아파트는 비-장소이자 그 자체로 공포적 환유이다. 이런 특징은 이전 아파트-영화에서 찾아볼 수 없는 독특한 측면이다.
