This study identifies the genre archetypes of the ‘Guideverse’ within Korean BL(Boy’s Love) web novels. The narrative mechanisms through which the structure of physical subordination between characters is sublimated into an emotional romantic bond is clarified. BL is a comprehensive concept encompassing male-to-male romantic narratives primarily enjoyed by female participants. Along with the expansion of web-based platforms, the BL genre has achieved exponential growth and produced diverse subgenres. However, as existing scholarship predominantly concentrates on the ‘Omegaverse’, an urgent need exists for academic discourse regarding other subgenres like the ‘Guideverse’. The Guideverse is premised on an asymmetrical symbiotic relationship between the ‘Esper’?who possesses a transcendent physique but remains exposed to the risk of physical and psychological self-destruction?and the ‘Guide’, the only existence capable of healing them. This study utilises various theoretical frameworks, such as biopolitics, state of exception, master-slave dialectic, and heterotopia, to analyse the narrative mechanisms of the Guideverse. Specifically, these aspects are examined through samk’s Dazzling Breath and Geuphan’s Blood Poker . Analysis of the relational dynamics in these texts tracks how the body of the Esper, situated under the control of state systems, is redefined and reclaimed by the presence of the Guide. The Guideverse narrative replaces the physical subordination occurring through the narrative device of ‘guiding’ with romantic salvation, thereby establishing a romance where both characters become irreplaceable to one another. This suggests that the Guideverse transcends a mere fantasy narrative, further serving as a modern narrative of salvation where isolated individuals find healing and completion through inevitable contact with the ‘Other’. Ultimately, this study expands the horizons of BL research by systematically categorising the subgenres and genre conventions of the Guideverse. The study represents a meaningful attempt to capture how specific genres develop unique conventions within the rapidly evolving web novel market. Furthermore, these findings may provide a solid academic foundation for future research on narrative mechanisms and genre motifs in popular literature.

본 연구는 한국 BL 장르 웹소설 중 가이드버스(Guideverse)의 장르적 전형을 밝히는 한편, 가이드버스 서사에서 나타나는 인물 간 신체 예속의 구조가 로맨스라는 정서적 결합으로 전이되는 서사적 기제를 밝히는 데 목적을 둔다. BL(Boy’s Love)은 여성 향유층을 중심으로 발전한 남성 동성애 서사 콘텐츠를 포괄하는 개념이다. 웹 기반 플랫폼의 확장과 함께 BL 장르는 비약적인 성장을 거듭하며 다양한 하위장르를 생산해 왔다. 그러나 기존의 BL 장르 연구가 주로 오메가버스(Omegaverse)에 편중되어 있어 여타 하위장르에 대한 논의가 절실한 시점이다. 본고가 주목한 가이드버스는 초월적 신체를 지녔으나 신체·자아 파멸(폭주)의 위험에 노출되어있는 ‘에스퍼(Esper)’와 그를 치유할 수 있는 유일한 존재인 ‘가이드(Guide)’ 사이의 비대칭적인 공생 관계를 전제로 한다. 본 연구는 생명정치, 예외상태, 주인과 노예의 변증법, 헤테로토피아 등 다양한 이론적 틀을 활용하여 가이드버스의 서사적 기제를 분석하였으며, samk 작가의 『눈부신 숨』과 급한 작가의 『블러드 포커(Blood Poker)』를 통해 그 구체적인 양상을 고찰하였다. 특히 두 텍스트에 나타난 인물 간의 관계 양상을 분석함으로써, 국가 시스템의 통제 아래 놓인 에스퍼의 신체가 가이드라는 존재에 의해 어떻게 재정의되는지 추적하였다. 그 결과, 가이드버스 서사는 ‘가이딩’이라는 서사적 장치를 통해 발생하는 에스퍼와 가이드 간의 신체적 예속 관계를 로맨틱한 구원으로 치환하며, 두 인물이 서로에게 대체 불가능한 존재가 됨으로써 로맨스 서사를 형성하고 있음을 확인하였다. 이는 가이드버스 장르가 단순한 판타지 서사를 넘어, 타인과의 불가피한 접촉을 통해 고립된 개인이 치유되고 완성되는 현대적 구원 서사의 일종임을 시사한다고 할 수 있다. 본 연구는 BL 장르 내부의 하위장르를 세분화하고 학술적으로 접근하여 가이드버스의 장르 문법을 체계적으로 정리함으로써 BL 웹소설 연구의 지평을 넓혔다는 점에서 의의를 지닌다. 이는 급변하는 웹소설 시장 내에서 특정 장르가 고유한 서사 문법을 형성해 나가는 과정을 학술적으로 포착했다는 점에서 유의미한 시도라 할 수 있다. 나아가 본 연구가 향후 대중문학 내 다양한 모티프의 서사적 기제, 장르 문법 등을 탐구하는 후속 연구들에 학술적 토대를 제공할 수 있으리라 기대한다.
