Meta-Representation and Listening to the Polyphonic Voices Surrounding Camptown Women

- This study examines the narrative strategies of Oh Yun-hee’s Young-sook and Jade, focusing on how women’s experiences and memories in US military camptown villages are mediated through exceptional urban and spatial settings. Previous representations of camptown women have largely been framed through the perspective of male subjects within colonial domination?subjugation relations, intersecting with the axes of state, gender, race, and ethnicity. Within such frameworks, the image of the camptown woman was instrumentalised to reinforce nationalist identity and solidarity, often tied to notions of ethnic purity or cultural homogeneity. By contrast, Young-sook and Jade resists and destabilise this male-centered schematic, which has reduced camptown women to uniform and stigmatised images. The novel interweaves the voices of those who directly experienced historical events with post-memory articulated by the next generation, reshaping both narrative subjectivity and levels of narration. Ultimately, the novel seeks to trace the trajectories of camptown women?figures long defined as marginal within colonial and nationalist ideologies?and to reconstitute their lives as acts of resistance against dominant ideologies and public records of the twentieth century.

- 본 연구는 오윤희 소설 『영숙과 제이드』의 사례를 통해 미군 부대 기지촌 여성의 경험과 기억이 기지촌이라는 예외상태적 시・공간의 안팎을 경유해 서사화되는 방식에 주목하였다. 지금까지 기지촌 성매매 여성을 둘러싼 접근 방식은 국가·젠더·인종·민족과 같은 여러 축들을 바탕으로 식민 지배-피지배 관계에 놓인 남성 주체의 시각을 경유해 전개되어 왔다는 시각이 지배적이다. 이는 ‘순혈주의’ 혹은 ‘단일민족’과 같은 기표와 연동된 민족주의 담론이 성립되는 과정에서 내부적 동일성과 결속을 다지기 위해 기지촌 여성의 이미지가 활용되어 온 국면과 연관이 깊다. 본고가 주목한 『영숙과 제이드』는 기지촌 여성의 존재를 ‘피억압자·피착취자’의 획일화된 이미지로 구현해 온 당대의 남성 중심 지배 계급의 도식에 대한 저항과 전복을 시도한다. 이 과정에서 과거 역사적 사건을 직접 경험한 당사자의 목소리, 그리고 그 다음 세대와의 정동적 관계에 입각한 포스트메모리의 기록은 소설 전체의 서술 주체 및 서사 층위의 구조에까지 영향을 끼친다. 그리하여 이 소설이 궁극에 말하고자 하는 것은 식민적・민족적 이데올로기에 연루되어 타자로 규정되어 온 기지촌 여성의 삶의 궤적을 살피고 그것을 다시금 다음 세대의 포스트메모리로 이어감으로써, 기지촌 여성의 삶을 지난 세기의 이데올로기와 공적 기록에 대한 저항담론으로 재편하는 것이라 할 수 있다.

- 한국문예창작학회(The Society of Korean Literary Creative Writing)는 한국 문학의 새 지평을 열기 위해 문예창작 이론과 문예교육 이론을 연구 계발하여 문 예창작의 새로운 방향을 제시하고자 조직한 학술단체입니다. 전국 대학과 대학원 문예창작 관련학과의 전·현직 전임교수·겸임(초빙)교수· 강 사·대학원 재학 이상자 및 문예창작인들이 회원으로 활동하고 있습니다. 학회의 목적에 적극적으로 동의하는 문학 관련 단체나 문학창작 동호인도 준회원으로 참 여하고 있습니다. 연 2회 학회지를 발간해 학문적 기반을 닦고 있으며, 정기적으로 학술 세미나 와 해외 문학 심포지엄 등 학술 발표회를 개최하여 학문적 교류와 토론의 장을 넓히고 있습니다. 한편으로, 문예창작 캠프·문학기행 등의 창작교육 활동과 창작 학습 행사를 수 시로 진행하면서, 창작·창작이론·창작교육에 관한 활동의 범위를 넓히고 있습니다. 별도로, 문예창작 교육을 받은 문예창작학도들의 진로 개발을 위해 '문예교육지도 교사 자격 시험'도 운영하고 있습니다. The Society of Korean Literary Creative Writing is a pure academic association for the literary cretive writing, and was organized on November 11, 2001 for the purpose of presenting the new direction of literary creative writing by studying all the methods to activate and develop the theories of literary creative writing and its education. Our society is composed of professors or ex-professors, some invited professor, lecturers, graduate students of the dept. of literary creative writing as regular members, and the persons interested in our program as associative members. Our society holds an annual academic meeting-- literary symposium, literary creative writing seminar-- and publishes the journal of our society and our members' anthology of literary works. Added to these, our society has already started a new project to open the way for our literary juniors by providing them with a certificate as a leader and holding a forum for literary creative writing.
