The year 2026 marks the 70th anniversary of the Korean Church's mission to Thailand, and is two years before the 200th anniversary of Protestant mission in Thailand. Despite nearly two centuries of missionary engagement, Protestant Christians account for only 0.75% of Thailand's total population, with the evangelization rate among the majority Thai people at 0.31%. Addressing the question of why evangelization has remained structurally slow despite such a long history of mission, this study analyzes barriers to evangelization in Thailand through a missiological approach combining historical literature analysis, statistical data review, and field-based practical theological reflection. The analysis identifies nine specific sub-factors under three structural categories: (1) cultural and religious barriers, (2) theological and church-related barriers, and (3) missiological-structural barriers. On this basis, the study proposes seven missiological response strategies organized under three corresponding categories: innovation in gospel communication, internal renewal of the Thai church, and restructuring of missiological structures. This study critically reflects on seventy years of Korean Church mission to Thailand and contributes to practical missiology by proposing structural principles applicable to Protestant mission in Theravada Buddhist contexts more broadly.

2026년은 한국교회의 태국 선교 70주년이자 태국 개신교 선교 200주년을 2년 앞둔 시점이다. 그러나 198년에 이르는 선교 역사에도 불구하고 태국 개신교 인구는 전체의 0.75%에 불과하며, 주종족 타이족의복음화율은 0.31%에 머물러 있다. 본 연구는“왜 오랜 선교 역사에도불구하고 복음화는 더딘가?”라는 문제의식에서 출발하여, 태국 선교의구조적 장애요인을 분석하고 선교적 대응전략을 제시하는 것을 목적으로한다. 본 연구는 선교 역사 문헌 분석, 선교 통계 자료 분석, 그리고 현장 사역의 경험적 성찰을 결합한 선교신학적 접근을 방법론으로 취한다. 분석 결과, 태국 복음화를 가로막는 구조적 장애요인은 (1) 문화·종교적장벽, (2) 신학·교회적 장벽, (3) 선교구조적 장벽의 세 범주 9가지 세부 요인으로 분류된다. 이를 토대로 본 연구는 복음 전달 방식의 혁신, 태국 교회의 내적 갱신, 선교구조의 재편이라는 세 범주 아래 7가지 선교적 대응전략을 제시한다. 본 연구는 한국교회 태국 선교 70년을 비판적으로 성찰하는 동시에, 상좌부 불교권 선교에 적용 가능한 보편적 선교학적 원리를 실천신학적 차원에서 제공한다.
